Sub: Implementation of adequate Traffic Calming Measures taken on roads merging in or

Diverging from the NHs / SHs and other required places

Sir,
In continuation to the above referenced letters, the status of the number of junctions
existing on SH/MDRs, furnished by the Divisions, need to be revisited on account of their
efficacy in catering future capacity of traffic and ensuring traffic safety as per the provision
of IRC: 67-2012 for sign boards and IRC:35-2015 for road markings. Similarly, other
provisions of all types of traffic calming measures like rumble strips, medians, kerbs, guard
posts, RPMs, etc. are to be carried out in accordance with provisions of MORTH Specifications
for Roads and Bridge.

In the above context, the skeletal sketches of traffic calming measures on a minor road
in a T-junction wherein rumble strips, sign boards, markings, speed limit sign boards, etc. with
respect to distances were shared earlier for ready reckoning.

In the above backdrop, the tentative specifications of items with minimum quantities at
those junctions have been provided herewith at Annexure-A (2 Sheets) for speedy
implementation at existing minor arm of junctions located on NHs/ SHs at your level.

It is requested that urgent implementation of adequate traffic calming measures on

roads merging in or Diverging from the NHs / SHs and other required places may be taken
within Division jurisdiction on war-footing basis and be reported to this office as ATR within
30th November 2017.

This may be treated as most URGENT.
