PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION:
(NTS: Select and list specification sections for inserting into this subsection based
on the following:
1. Specification sections that contain products and construction that the reader
might expect to find in this section BUT are specified elsewhere.
2. Specification sections referenced in the body of this section.)
A. Section 03200: Concrete Reinforcement.
1.03 REFERENCES:
(NTS: Select the appropriate references to be included in the project. Add or edit
references as appropriate. Delete those references that are not applicable.)
A. American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO):
1. PCI M.L.-116: Manual for Quality Control for Plants and Production of
Precast and Prestressed Concrete Products.
1.04 SUBMITTALS:
2. Mark each member for identification. Show mark on erection plan and
place legibly on unit at time of manufacture.
B. Do not fabricate members before shop drawings are approved by the CM/CS.
D. Design Responsibility:
B. Coordinate the delivery, storage, handling and erection of the concrete tees.
C. Store tees on clean blocking, off the ground and protected from rain and ground
splatter. Cover tees with durable covers of canvas, heavy waterproof paper or
plastic sheeting. Secure covers firmly and protect the tees from dust, dirt or other
materials which may stain concrete.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
G. Concrete: Regular weight structural concrete having a nominal unit weight of 150
lb. per cubic foot [2400 kg per cubic meter]. Minimum compressive strength of
5,000 psi [35 MPa] at 28 days.
I. Use galvanized steel T-hangers conforming to ASTM A 123 for small pipe
supports.
A. Provide precast, prestressed concrete tees in accordance with ACI 318, MNL-116
and as specified herein.
B. Welding:
C. Design Loads:
1. Design tees for the dead load of the member and the superimposed dead
load of all floor, ceiling and roof components.
2. Design tees for the roof and floor live loads indicated.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 FABRICATION:
A. Fabricate concrete tees in accordance with M.L.-116 and Sections 03200 and
03300.
B. Cast concrete tees in smooth, rigid forms to sizes, lengths and profiles indicated
on the drawings. Properly vibrate concrete. Apply an Architectural Class B
Finish as defined by PCI to all exposed surfaces. Local surface patching to obtain
a smooth finish will be permitted only where extent of such work is minor and
where appearance is not adversely affected. Chamfer all exposed edges 3/4 inch
[19 mm]. Recess ends of all tendons a minimum of inch [13 mm] and fill
recess with a matching non-shrink, non-metallic grout.
D. Steel trowel finish the upper surfaces of tees to have roofing material applied
directly on top of the tee flange.
E. Cast all flange openings larger than 6-in. [150 mm] in greatest dimension or
having an area of more than 36 sq. in. [2.3 sq. meters] into members at time of
fabrication and properly reinforce. Smaller flange openings may be core-drilled
in the field when approved in writing by the structural Engineer who has signed
and sealed the Certificate of Design. Cast openings in stems of tees at time of
fabrication.
3.02 INSTALLATION:
A. Lift and support members during transportation and erection at same points where
members will be supported in completed structure.
D. Erect and install tees in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions using
experienced workmen. Tees shall be accurately placed and adjusted to correct
alignment and elevation before securing in place. Locate connections and welds
in accordance with approved shop drawings. Welded connections shall be
inspected and approved before covering with concrete topping or roofing
materials.
F. Field cutting or coring is not permitted without the written approval of the
Structural Engineer who has signed and sealed the Certificate of Design. Powder
driven fasteners into tees are not permitted.
G. Difference in camber between any two adjacent roof members to receive concrete
topping not to exceed -inch [13 mm] for members up to a 50 foot [15 meter]
span. Place 20 gage [1 mm] galvanized metal closures over joints between
precast members prior to placing concrete topping.
H. Difference in camber between any two adjacent roof members to receive roofing
material not to exceed -inch [13 mm] for members up to a 50 foot [15 meters]
span. Adjust roof differential camber between adjacent members in excess of 1/4-
inch [6 mm] prior to application of any roofing material. Use a cement grout
mixture of not less than one part cement to three parts fine sand. Strike grout on a
1 to 12 slope.
