Summary of Broadcast Code of the Philippines 2007 (as amended 2011)

The following codes serve as a guide towards a fair and honest broadcasting intended for the
development of each individual in the community and for the empowerment of their rights.

ARTICLE I. NEWS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS

Radio Stations should:

inform the community of the current events and issues in no less than 30 minutes of the
news program
be fair and objective without being biased of a certain issue
avoid deviating from the news like adding opinions and commentaries unless there is a
need to do so
have credible sources unless confidential
state whether a report is unconfirmed and verify it afterwards to the listeners
never edit interviews and set the conditions clearly on air
state whether an editorial is added to the news
avoid advertisements that will interrupt the news

ARTICLE II. ANALYSIS AND COMMENTARIES

Radio Stations should:

provide commentaries for the community to participate and discuss the current issues of
the different sectors in the society
choose a broadcaster who is knowledgeable about a specific field
acknowledge the person behind the programs being aired

ARTICLE III. COVERAGE INVOLVING CHILDREN

Radio Stations should:

always respect a childs privacy and they should not be exploited


interview a child with proper consent from their parents unless the parent is accused

ARTICLE IV. PERSONAL ATTACKS

Radio Stations should:

avoid attacking or criticizing a persons integrity or personal qualities


avoid attacking fellow broadcasters
allowa person or an institution that was attacked, to reply on the program or other
program under similar conditions

ARTICLE V. CORRECTING MISTAKES

Radio Stations should:

correctthe mistakes on air by stating the mistake and make the necessary correction
afterwards

ARTICLE VII. INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS

Radio Stations should:

respect the rights and privacy of each individual


treat each individual suffering from tragic situations with sensitivity

ARTICLE VIII. POLITICAL PROPAGANDA

Radio Stations should:

provide political candidates and parties equal access to airtime

ARTICLE IX. PUBLIC COMPLAINTS AND GRIEVANCES

Radio Stations should:

air complaints and grievances that are substantial under certain conditions

ARTICLE X. CALLS OR MESSAGES

Radio Stations should:

allow individuals to make worthy appeals (panawagan) under a certain language, guided
by broadcasters
prohibit appeals coming from unknown people

ARTICLE XII. RELIGION

Radio Stations should:


airreligious programs that are reflected positively and are not attacking other peoples
beliefs

ARTICLE XIII. SUPERSTITION AND THE OCCULT

Radio Stations should:

prohibit airing superstitious things that listeners may believe at

ARTICLE XV. MUSIC

Radio Stations should:

play atleast 4 OPM songs in an hour without repetition


prohibit songs with vulgar lyrics from airing
acknowledge companies that request air time for their music as the sponsor of the
program

ARTICLE XVI. FUND RAISING

Radio Stations should:

only allow legitimate projects with clear agendas to be on air

ARTICLE XVIII. GAMBLING AND BETTING

Radio Stations should:

allowgambling that are authorized by the government to be on air thus, people are not
encourage to be engaged in such things

ARTICLE XIX. NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Radio Stations should:

consistently air programs such as PSAs for the development of the people and the
community

ARTICLE XX. CULTURE AND TRADITION

Radio Stations should:


emphasize on family values and cultivation of Filipino culture
expose themselves to culture and traditions in order to serve the community well

ARTICLE XXI. RESPECT FOR LAW AND ORDER

Radio Stations should:

avoid using their facilities for violence or other bad intentions

ARTICLE XXV. SEX, OBSCENITY AND VIOLENCE

Radio Stations should:

prohibit airing sexual subjects that are indecent

ARTICLE XXVII. ON-AIR LANGUAGE

Radio Stations should:

prohibit vulgar language

ARTICLE XXX. ACCREDITATION

Radio Stations should:

create and air programs that comply to the accreditation requirements of KBP

ARTICLE XXXI. BRIBERY

Radio Stations should:

avoidreceiving money and other things intended for inappropriate intentions that can
harm a person or organization

ARTICLE XXXII. BLOCKTIMERS

Radio Stations should:

ensure thatblocktimers who are given air time should be held responsible if there are
penalties from KBP.

ARTICLE XXXIII. UNIVERSAL ETHICAL STANDARDS

Radio Stations should:

monitor the universally accepted practices and conducts of broadcasters
