CANADA

CANADA GEOGRAPHY
Canada is in the north of America and shares borders withe United States of
America. It extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Artic
Ocean.
Canada is the second biggest country in the world, after Russia. Most of the people
live close to the Us Canada border where the main urban areas are: Montreal,
Vancouver, Quebec, Toronto..
Canada longest river is the Mackenzie River and the highest mountain is the Mount
Logan at the border with Alaska.
Canada has the largest waterfalls by wter volumen, the Niagara Falls

THE GOVERNMENT
The British monarch is the head of state of Canada. The monarch is represented by
a gobernor-general who has very limited powers.
Laws are made by Canadas elected federal government , which includes a
parliament and a prime minister, Justin Trudeau. Canada is a federation of ten
provinces and three territories
Britains Quebec Act of 1774 granted Quebec its own legal and religious rights.
Despite this concession , in votes held in 1980 and 1995, Quebec decided to stay in
Canada.
This country is officially bilingual in English and French and the capital is Otawa.

UNITED NATIONS
Canada is a founding member od the United Nations in 1945, and continues to play
an important role.
Canada is known in the world for its support and contribution to peace keeping
missions, for example in Haiti, Sudan, Congo, Middle East..
Canada is a country that has big financial and human resources, some of which are
destinated to the promise of meeting the Millenium Development Goals.
Canada is also a member of the G8, NAFTA ( North American Free Trade
Agreement), NATO, the Commonwealth and La Francophonie.
