Course Description: Astronomy
Credit Units: 3 Units
Schedule: MWF (5:15- 6:15)

Course Description:
This course presents an introduction to the field of Astronomy, including the current investigations for life on
other planets. Course topics include modern methods of observational astronomy, an overview of the scientific
method, astronomical measurements , age and origin of the Solar System. All the reading, course material and
assessments are to be put in the journal.

General Objectives:
Upon the end of the prelim period, the students will:
1. describe the Big Bang,
2. explain the age and origin of the Solar System; and
3. gain the scientific basis to summarize conditions necessary for life and to assess scientific evidence
for life on other planets.

Topic 1 - Review of Science, Scientific Method and notation


Objectives:
The students will:
1. Define Science and its branches;
2. Apply in a real life task the steps in scientific method;
3. Express through scientific notation
