Faculty/Department Petroleum & Gas Technology Department
Short Description process engineering, dehydration, oil, NGL, LPG and LNG, minor
components, distillation, contaminant removal, storage and evacuation,
storage tanks, pipelines, subsea production system,
distribution network and terminals.
Aims The student will be able apply their understanding of oil and gas
processing operations to design optimal process for separation design,
dehydration, water treatment and evacuating crude oil and gas on both
land and offshore. The student will be able to asses the impact of
these technologies on petroleum production economics.
Learning Outcomes Knowledge and Understanding:
1. the overall process operation of oil and natural gas
processing, storage and transportation;
2. pipeline design and inspection
3. offshore production platforms;

Cognitive skills
4. design systems for oil and gas processing;
5. Propose suitable design for hydrocarbon-flow systems;
Practical Skills:
6. computational modelling of oil and gas processing, storage and
transportation.
7. Selection of suitable processing operation for specific
production conditions.
Transferable Skills:
8. evaluate procedures to ensure successful and efficient
operations and modify plans for future markets in the gas
industry;
9. identify appropriate technologies to optimize economic
products;
Employability To prepare student to get job and be professional graduate in
future, the development of one or more of top engineering skills,
namely problem solving, communication, management and
environment and economics, is addressed in this module.
Personal development planning is also one of our focuses in this
module

Assessment Examination: A 180 minutes unseen

Elements & weightings written examination assesses learning
outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 70%
Course Work: 30% A mini design project
assessed through a technical report
(not to exceed 5000 words). This method
assesses learning outcomes 6, 7, 8, 9. 30%
Students must achieve (i) 40% for the total module mark
and (ii) at least 30% in the unseen examination and the
course work in order to achieve an overall passing mark
for this module.
