Formerly known as the Ambassadors Youth Advisory Council, the U.S. Embassy Youth Council is
a group of young Nepalese people under the age of 30 from all regions of Nepal and representing
various background, race, religion, profession etc. The council was created by the Embassy of the
United States of America to Nepal.

1. When was the Youth Council established?


The Ambassadors Youth Advisory Council was initiated in 2011 by former U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, H.E.
Scott H. DeLisi.
2. How many members are there in the Youth Council?
There are 50 members in the Youth Council every year. Formerly, there used to be 70 council members.
3. Why was the Youth Council established?
U.S. Embassy Youth Council was established for the U.S. Government to communicate directly with the
young people about the challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, the U.S. Embassy Youth Council aims
to provide young people with a platform where they can freely express their views, engage in open and
constructive dialogues and explore opportunities to make positive changes in their communities.
4. Who manages the Youth Council?
The council is funded by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy. Currently, it is being managed by
We Inspire Nepal (WIN), an NGO that aims in strengthening people and society through innovative
trainings, inspiring campaigns and policy level advocacies.
5. What do the council members do in their tenure?
The council members participate in learning based training and events as well as carry out different U.S.
Embassy funded civic engagement projects in their communities.
6. How long is the Youth Council membership term?
The tenure for Youth Council members is of one year.
7. Does the Youth Council select members from outside the Kathmandu Valley?
Yes, council members are selected from all across Nepal. The council aims to include members from
different regions of the country.
8. Who is eligible to apply?
Any Nepalese youth within the age group of 18 to 27 is eligible to apply.
9. How do I apply?
Applications are called once a year. One needs to follow the application instructions during the call.
10. Can I apply if I belong to any political parties?
Yes, members belonging to any institutions, parties or background can apply.
11. What are the benefits of being a Youth Council member?
As a council member, one has an access to a growing network of young change-makers in Nepal and
around the world who are committed to improving their community. The members get a unique
opportunity of participating in training and seminars conducted exclusively for the members. Furthermore,
the members can apply for embassy funding to complete a civic engagement project for their community.
Also, the members are invited to various U.S. Embassy programs related to a wide variety of issues.
12. Do I need to speak English to apply for the Youth Council?
No. We encourage potential people to apply regardless of their English-speaking ability.
