The youth is the hope of the motherland.

This is just one of idioms that our Philippine

national hero Dr. Jose Rizal once enunciated. This means that the future of our nation lies on the
hands of the youth of today. More so, the youth have the power to reshape the nation's present
appearance. However, this meaningful and echoing idiom has been passing through our ears for
years but it seems that no improvement has evolved.

The generation of Rizal has gone a long time ago and the said idiom traveled from
generation to next generation but the brilliant idiom has molded nothing. Filipinos just keep on
murmuring this line but they take no moves to actuate their stand. Even though there are few
who really pursue their patriotism, they are overshadowed by the many that decline to move.

The progress of a nation does not solely depend on the youth, but on all the people. We
might have doubts on how the youth can shape the image of hope when in fact they are still
young and dependent on their parents. They do not have the voice in national affairs and they are
currently striving with their lessons in schools.

Some Filipinos believe that youth is not qualified to be the so called Hope of the
Nations. They believe that the youth are so modernized to be the countrys hope and tend to
think only of themselves. They believe that the modernization that took place in the country
contributes to the losing Filipino values that were inherited a long time ago. For them, the hope
is not in the youth, but only in themselves.

It only boils down to two things now; believing in the ability of the youth to be the hope,
and making a change. For the pessimistic Filipinos who would not change the way they view
todays youth, I suggest they encourage and train the youth, along with the ones believing in
them, and shape them into the people truly worthy to be the hope. If only all the Filipinos, young
and old alike, would cooperate, then we could make a big difference. Through proper training
and trust in youth and in God, Rizals vision of the bright tomorrow would be accomplished.

We are educated; thus, we are aware of the goodness of every action. We are rational gift
from God; thus, we can identify right from wrong. We are full of idealisms; therefore, we can
share something worthy for motherlands development. We are creative; therefore, we can exist
with our styles and techniques. The youth are vigilant; thus, we can never conceal the lies. And
finally, we are the products of our parents, who pampered us with love, care, and wisdom; of our
teachers who always encourage us to develop love of our country, inculcate the value of
perseverance and hard-work; share knowledge and help us to become honourable men and
women of the society.

In a society different strata and groups of people live; such as young, old, rich and poor;
the most important and significant proxy of a society which plays a decisive role is the youth and
fresh generation of that society. If we analyze the role and duty in a society we can say as; youth
are back bone to the nation. They can change the future of the society with their well being and
courageous behavior. They are here to show us what we have not been willing to look at within
ourselves. Unfortunately today we find the youth who are more interested in other places which
are not useful to them as well as nation. They choose to spend their days doing drugs and playing
video games. They spend their nights partying and living it up, so to speak. More and more
young men of this age group are sitting at home in front of their televisions playing games all
day instead of bettering themselves or going to work. They have no vision and if they do have
dreams they do not have the drive to make any attempt at achieving them.
We must get control of this. We must motivate our youth. We must teach responsibility
and goal setting. I fear if we do not, we will soon be supporting an entire generation of homeless
and needlessly on welfare families. Things have to change, with our schools, with the older
generation being good role models, with the older generation being mentors, and with the youth
who are right now doing nothing. Those of you who are in their teen age, you have a choice. You
can allow yourselves to stay your course and do nothing or you can rise above what the cynics
around you expect and go get educated or get jobs. Show the older generation that they are
wrong about you. Let them know you have intelligence and skills. Show yourself what you are
made of. You might be surprised at how proud of yourself you become with even the smallest of
accomplishments. I can tell you that nothing can happen if you do not try.
I am very unfortunate to say that our young generation in our society they are not up to
the challenge to face the music and make themselves ready for every obstacle to face and tackle
the problems, crises and critical circumstances of todays challenges. It is on us to save the future
and be the hope of the country because in the current era which we live there is a dire need of
improvement and achievement. The world goes in such velocity that we Afghan people even
cannot think of it. Lets be a role model for the society so that individual of the society makes us
their role model in their every aspect of their lives. To get rid of the ongoing problems and
overcome the obstacles we have to voluntarily participate in the social; cultural and political
activities in the country. Key role of youth in society is to renew, refresh & maintain a
civilization.
I call on you, my fellow young citizens of this country; let us emulate our national hero,
Dr. Jose Rizal, and be truly the hope of our motherland.
