DESIGN OF LOAD BEARING STIFFENERS FOR END CROSS GIRDERS ABOVE JACKS:
A pair of bearing stiffeners should be provided at each end to transmit the end reaction to the supports, if the reaction exceeds the value of (ac x t x B).
The stiffener is designed as a compression member.
Where,
Clear depth of web between root fillets d3 = 1218 mm thickness of web plate t = 12 mm
Ratio d3 sqrt(3)/t = 175.80 For Yield Strength fy = 250.00 MPa
ac = maximum permissible axial stress for a slenderness ratio of d3 x sqrt(3) / t = 34.679 MPa (Tab. 11.1 - IRC:24-2001)
B = length of the stiff portion of the bearing plus the additional length given by dispersion at 45o to the level of the neutral axis.
Assuming Diameter of Jack = 300 mm

B= bearing width+dispersion 1:1 = 625 mm (but not greater than half the depth of beam)

CHECKFORDEFLECTIONOFSTEELPLATEGIRDERANDREQUIREDCAMBER
Plate girders will be cambered by cutting the web plate to the cambered shape before the flanges are attached. The dead-load deflection has two
components, one corresponding to DL and one to SIDL. For computation of deflection due to DL, the moment of inertia I of the steel section alone
will be used. For SDL, MOI that of composite section will be used. It should be noted that interior and exterior girders on straight bridges should be
cambered the same even if the design dead loads are different. For camber purposes all dead loads should be distributed equally to all girders in a
cross-section.
