The course is topic based and designed to develop the listening,
speaking, reading and writing skills of students who are fals
e beginners. Students will learn to communicate within the con

of topics relating to daily interactions, personal informat
ion, ownership, habits and routines, likes and dislikes, time, f
ree-time activities and classroom activities by listening to, an
d practicing simple dialogues, reading and responding to texts
( 400~700 headwords) and writing paragraphs (of around 100 word
s) containing a variety of sentence structures. The genres in fo
cus this course will include recount, instruction and classifica
tion.

Criteria

1.Students are required to come to class on time with their text

2. Attendance will be taken in each class meeting, but absences


can be excused without penalty as long as students provide an ex
planation and documentation that will prove the legitimacy of th
eir absence before or (in the case of medical issues only) after
the fact.
Late arrival: More than ten-minute late i
s considered to be a leave of absence unless a prior arrangement
has been made. You are considered as being late if you arrive at
the class less than 10 minutes late.

Those who are more than 20 minutes late will be counted as
ABSENT

3. Ten hours of absences will risk a failure of the class.

4. Students will not be given any makeup tests for any types of
leaves.
5. Students should be prepared for quizzes in class at any tim

6. Any intention of cheating is considered as cheating.

Your attendance in class is mandatory. You are strongly encourag
ed to participate actively in class discussions.
You will be graded according to your performance in class such a
s impromptu, group discussion, personal presentation.

8. You are not allowed to put your cellphones in the drawer or o
n the table while taking quizzes or exams. The violation for mid
term or final exams will result in zero.

9. Cellular/smart phones are prohibited using in class. Cell pho
nes must be turned off during the class.

10. Assignments must be handed in on time in terms of deadlines.

11. Students should bring their textbooks and assigned learning
materials ready for the class.

12. If you use a second-hand textbook, you must erase the answer
s to the exercises on the textbook. If you fail to do so by thre
e times, 10% of your general grades will be deducted. This polic
y validates from the second week of the semester.
