Beginning Simulation

1. Select new case from file menu or press new case button
2. Need to pick a property package so HYSYS knows how to calculate thermodynamic
and transport properties (viscosities, densities etc)
Hit the fluid Pkgs tab and press Add button and available property packages appear:
The choice of Property Package is made on the Prop Pkg tab, to select a base property package, in this
case Peng Robinson:
Scroll down the list of available property packages until Peng Robinson is highlighted.

3. Now we need to select the components in our gas stream:

Hit the view tab on Component List - 1
Notice that each component is listed in three ways:
At the top of each of these three columns is a corresponding radio button. Based on the selected radio
button, HYSYS will locate the component(s) that best match the input you type in the Match cell.
For this example, N2, H2S, H2O, CO2, C1, C2, C3, iC4 and nC4 will be used as the components. To
add nitrogen using the match feature:Matching Method Description
SimName The name appearing within the simulation.
FullName/Synonym IUPAC name (or similar), and synonyms for many
components.
Formula The chemical formula of the component

Select the components by either using your mouse or typing in the formulas/sim name
You can view the properties of each component by highlighting the component and hitting the view
component button (critical point and other thermochemical properties are displayed)
Close the Component List View window

4. Close the Fluid Package:Basis 1 window and hit the Enter Simulation
Environment button Save your case

5. First we install the feed streams, we will start with a lean gas.
You can create the feedstream from the workbook (under Tools) or use the palate at the right side of
the screen:
Create a stream and call it Well 1 with the following T, P, and compositions:
Temperature = 60 F
Pressure = 41.37 bar
Flowrate = 6 MMSCF molar flowrate space
go to Composition then hit the edit button
mole fraction
N2 0.01
H2S 0
H2O 0.01
CO2 0.01
C1 0.9
C2 0.035
C3 0.015
iC4 0.0075
nC4 0.0075
nC5 0.0025
nC6 0.0025
nC7 0
hit normalize

HYSYS has performed a flash calculation to calculate the properties of the streams
(vapour fraction, critical properties etc) you can see this if you go to the properties
section. You can also see this if you go to tools and highlight workbooks

You can also create a phase diagram:

go to well 1 and hit the attachments tab
then highlight utilities
hit the create button which gives you a choice of utilities to add, pick
envelope and hit add utility
hit the performance tab and you get the phase envelope for the well 1 stream,
you can also add the hydrate line

6. To see the impact of composition we will clone or copy well 1 and add some more
H2S and CO2. So add another stream and hit the define from other stream button,
select well 1
7. Change the H2S and CO2 to 0.4 and 0.3 respectively then normalize (everything shifts
to account for change so if you actually want 20 H2S you have to specify all other
components to match.
8. Create and envelope. Hit the performance tab and then hit the table button. Copy
the dew and bubble point data to excel. This is what it will look like:
your assignment is re-create the curve from Figure 10.5 (assume a
flowrate and T and P as this does not impact envelope)
