    throughtheirowncivilcode.
    TheSupremeCourthasbeenexamininghowmuchitcaninterferein
    Muslimlawsgoverningfamilyrelatedissuesasithearsapleatoendthe
    practicewhichpermitsMuslimmentodivorcetheirwivesbysayingtalaq
    threetimes.

    Whatisthecentre'sstandonthisissue?
    CentreisopposedtotheMuslimpracticeoftripletalaq.
    Ithasalsodescribedthispracticeasmisplacedinasecularcountry.
    Thecentresaysgenderequalityandthedignityofwomenarenot

    InspiteofprotestsbyMuslimwomenandactivistsworldwidethe
    procedureisstillprevalentinmostcountries.
    Thereareseveralinstanceswheretripletalaqhasenabledhusbandsto
    divorcetheirwivesarbitrarily,devoidofanysubstantiation.
    Oraltalaqortripletalaqdeliveredthroughnewmediaplatformslike
    Skype,textmessages,emailandWhatsApphavebecomeanincreasing
    causeofworryforthecommunity.
    Thetripletalaqhasbeenabolishedin21countriesincludingPakistan,but
    isstillprevalentinIndia.
    TheCentrereasonsthatthesepracticesareagainstconstitutionalprinciples
    suchasgenderequality,secularism,internationallawsetc.
    ThegovernmentalsoarguesthatwhenthesepracticesarebannedinIslamic
    theocraticcountries,thepracticescouldhaveabsolutelynobaseinreligion
    andareonlyprevalenttopermitthedominanceofmenoverwomen.
