Work as an Internee

In Commerce Department, University of Sargodha the students are required to undergo for six to
eight weeks of internship to complete the M.com degree. For this reason, I carried out my
internship in National Bank of Pakistan, Civil Lines Branch, Sargodha and tried to prepare my
report. During the session of six weeks I work in different departments on weekly basis. The
employees of the bank help me and provide me all required information. I studied major functions,
objectives and future planning. I worked in different departments during working as an internee
which proves to me very beneficial and me able to get basic concepts of banking operations.
Firstly, for few days I worked in Export Department where I learned how national bank helps
traders in exporting of their goods to various countries. And I also learned that bank opens foreign
currency accounts in three currencies GBP, USD and EUR. My job there was to verify that all
documents of trade are present. Then I worked in government department for a week. There my
job was to verify the government cheques and other banks cheques with the advice. And updated
the transaction record of Army and Airforce accounts. Afterwards I worked in deposits department.
There my duty was to fill deposit slips and cheques of customers. And to call customers for
receiving of their ATM cards and opening of accounts. In the last I worked in payments
departments. My job there was to verify persons and their cheques and then transfer for posting on
computer.

7. Departments of the Bank in which I worked as Internee.

7.1. Pension.

I have started internship in National Bank of Pakistan M.A Jinah Road Branch Quetta on August
5th, 2014. On the first day I made pension scroll of the previous day on excel sheet there was three
different types

Provincial pension

Central Pension

Military pension
In National Bank M.A Jinah Road Branch Quetta there is non-computerized manual system of
pension first of all there is pension Performa which we gave to the pensioner they fill it up and
submit we make entries in ledger and in pension book also after that the officer signed on the
Performa cashier made the payment on the sign of officer. In the making of fresh pension case first
of all the pensioner should submit a latter in which their department make it sure that he/she gave
their services in this department in past and he was the permanent employee of the department and
he should submit another latter from Accountant General office in which they take the
responsibility to give that much pension to them, he/she submit two copies of CNIC and two
photographs.

7.2. Employee Old Age Benefit Institution (EOBI)


Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), Ministry of Labour and Manpower,
Government of Pakistan was established through EOB Act 1976. It started operating since 1st of
July 1976. EOBI intends to facilitate Pensioners, Employers, Insured Persons, and employees of
the Institution through easy and authenticated mechanism of contribution collection and benefits
(pension and grant) disbursement and other banking services through use modern technology &
process. General requirement for the mechanisms include. It is another type of pension which is
given through the bank but this pension process is computerized in NBP M.A Jinah Road Brach
Quetta. On the spot should print the form of the specific person and take sign on the form and
officer should also sign then cashier made the payment.

7.3. Account Opening.

The Second task assigned to me was the account opening. First of all I asked the customer to give
me his/her ID card. In ID card, I checked the Expiry Date of the ID card. If the expiry date of the
card is correct and it has not been expired then I took interview of the customer so that I can know
what type of account he want to open PLS saving or current account and what is his/her source of
income for which he/she want to open this account. After the interview, he asked me that he want
to open saving account. I said ok then I tell him that the minimum amount for opening the saving
account is Rs. 100 and maximum amount you want to deposit and I also told him that in this
account zakat will be deducted and profit will be added. He said ok I will deposit Rs. 500. After
this, I asked the customer you will have to take some necessary things to open this account that
are as follows: After taking these documents I filled the Customer Information Folio (CIF) and in
CIF I asked the customer of whom person you want to make your Next of Kin. He told me the
name of next of kin, whats his relation with him/her; photocopy of his/her C.N.I.C and his mobile
number. After filling this information I took a verify of his/her C.N.I.C from Nadra from the
operations manager so I can know is this correct C.N.I.C. After all these things I opened the
account of customer. After this I took print of all the forms and then I took the signature card and
took the signature of that person whose account I opened and I used the Brach Stamp on signature
card. After this I took the sign of the designation authority means my supervisor.
