Rationale: Vocabulary in This Unit:

Solving systems of equations is an important concept not only in Section 3-1: system of equations, solution of a system, linear system, consistent system,
Algebra, but also in everyday life. Many architects, nurses, and inconsistent system, independent system, dependent system
mothers use this technique. They may not always write down the
equations, however, the process they use in their heads is the Section 3-2: equivalent systems
same. Figuring out the best price on a certain food item and how
much to buy requires solving a system of equations.

Pennsylvania Standards Addressed in This Unit: Major Unit Objectives by Day:

A1.1.2.1, A1.1.2.2, A1.1.3.1, A1.1.3.2 Monday/Tuesday: Students will correctly solve a system of equations graphically for 8 out of 10
CC.2.2.HS.D.9, CC.2.2.HS.D.10 homework problems . Students will write the definitions for independent, dependent, and
AA1.2.8, AA2.2.5, AA2.2.8 inconsistent systems of equations during class.

Wednesday/Thursday: Students will correctly solve problems (including word problems) using
elimination for 8 out of 10 homework problems. Students will be able to correctly solve problems
(including word problems) using substitution for 8 out of 10 homework problems.

Friday: Students will be complete a worksheet requiring them to solve systems of equations using
Resources and Videos: the three methods taught earlier in the week. The worksheet will also include vocabulary for the
students to match.
