) Using a MOCA router (Actiontec MI424WR) as a MOCA LAN bridge.

2.1) If you want the secondary router to have a static IP address on your network
(recommended), you will need to reserve a range of IP addresses on your PRIMARY router.
o From a PC connected to your primary router, Login to your primary router at 192.168.1.1
o Click on the My Network icon.
o Select Network Connections from the left menu.
o Click on the Network (Home/Office). The settings page should be displayed.
o Click on the settings button.
o In the Start IP Address field, select where you want your DHCP range to start. e.g. Change
this field to 192.168.1.10 to reserve 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.9 for static IP
addresses. 192.168.1.10 through 192.168.1.254 will be reservered for DHCP addresses.
o Click APPLY.

o 2.2) You will need to reconfigure the remote router, BEFORE you connect it to the coax.
Perform a hard reset on the secondary Actiontec to restore factory defaults.
Connect a PC to a LAN port of the Actiontec. By default, DHCP server should be enabled on the
Actiontec, so no need to set a static IP address on the PC.
Login to the router at 192.168.1.1

o 2.3) Before we can assign a static IP address to the secondary router, we need to reserve a
static IP address range on the secondary router.
Click on the My Network icon.
Select Network Connections from the left menu.
Click on the Network (Home/Office). The settings page should be displayed.
Click on the settings button.
In the Start IP Address field, select where you want your DHCP range to
start. e.g. Change this field to 192.168.1.10 to reserve 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.9
for static IP addresses. This step may seem unnecessary since we ar later going to disable
the DHCP server, but the firmware in the router checks that the IP address we are
assigning is outside the current DHCP range.
Click APPLY.

o 2.4) Change the remote router's LAN IP LAN address. This will allow the remote router to
be accessible at a known IP address for admin purposes.
Click on MY NETWORK icon at the top
Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS on the left menu.
Click on Network (Home/Office)
Click on the Settings button
On the IP ADDRESS line, enter an available IP address on the same subnet as your
primary router (e.g. 192.168.1.2).
Click APPLY. The router will reboot.

o 2.5) If your primary router's broadband connection is provisioned over coax, you need to
disable the remote router's coax WAN connection to prevent it from attempting to become
the primary router. If your broadband connection from the ONT to your primary router is
ethernet, this step is unnecessary.
Click on the MY NETWORK icon at the top.
Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS from the menu on the left.
Click on Broadband Connection (coax)
Click on DISABLE
o 2.6) Disable the remote router's DHCP server:
Click on ADVANCED icon at the top.
Click yes
IP Address Distribution
Select Network (Home/Office)
In the IP ADDRESS DISTRIBUTION pull-down, select DISABLED.
Click APPLY.
o You may or may not want to disable the wireless section in the remote router. If you leave it
enabled, you should set the SSID to the same as your primary router, and set it to use a
different channel. This can extend the wireless range of your wireless network.
o 2.7) Connect the remote Actiontec to the coax (you may need a 1Ghz 1x2 splitter).
