Things are going to get a little different.

We have had changes before. Remember before having the big screens in worship? Yeah, some
of us have forgotten about the time before then, havent we? That change was a little scary, but
we did it! How about the change of losing members to death? That, too is scary, isnt it? Change
always means walking into a different future.
Do you tense up when someone talks about change? Does doing something in a way different from your
usual manner create challenges for you? Truth is, things get different every day! In fact, at any moment of
any day, things could go differently for you. In other words, change is inevitable.
With the first Sunday in December, we start Advent Season that time of waiting, and preparing for Christ
to arrive. Of course, for most of us, its about getting ready for Christmas buying gifts, running here and
there for performances, hearing Christmas carols wherever we go. Advent is also about the Second Coming
of Jesus. When he returns on the last day to make all things new. In the darkness of winter, the Church
waits in anticipation for the light of Christ to return to us.
For the Church, Advent is a separate season from Christmas. The two seasons are different as different as
night and day. During Advent, we hear readings from prophets who warn Gods people of destruction and a
coming day when all the problems of the world will be put right. Christmas seems a more tender season
one that heralds the birth of life itself, in the Nativity, in the carols, in the prayers.
If Advent is a little Lent, Christmas could be called a little Easter celebration.
This year, we have another change: the fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated on Sunday morning. That
same day, in the evening, we will gather again for Christmas Eve worship! So, at 5:00 pm on the 23rd of Dec,
and again at 9:45 am on Sunday the 24th of Dec, we will hear the Annunciation of Jesus birth, and then
the evening of the 24th, we will return to celebrate Christmas Eve.
Another change is afoot as well: a new liturgical year.
Every year, with the first Sunday of Advent, the Church focuses on a new Gospel. This year is the year of
Mark. If you would like to read ahead, you could devote some time to reading the entire Gospel of Mark
during the Advent Season. (Thats a good way to remain focused on the Gospel message. Please note: Since
Marks Gospel is shorter than the rest, throughout the year the Church will also hear some familiar scriptures
from Johns Gospel and a few from Lukes Gospel.)
Wow! Can we handle those changes? In truth, we may or may not have difficulty in confronting change, but
guess what does not change? Gods care and concern for us does not change! God promises even amidst
changes to remain faithful to us.
Pr. Tim

Christmas Angel Tree

Angels are among us and some got caught in the angel tree in the sanctuary. These angels have no fam-
ily. This year beginning December 2nd, you can adopt an angel from the Filling Home of Mercy or from
Brookview Nursing Home.
If you want to adopt an angel, help one out of the tree. On the back you will find the angels name, age, and items
that they would like. You may buy all, some or just one of the items. Please do not wrap the gift(s), but place
them in a Christmas gift bag with the persons name and whether they are from Brookview or the
Filling Home and return them to the church by Sunday, December 17th.
Once the angels are adopted from the tree, please bring hats, gloves, and scarves to decorate the
tree. These items will go to the PATH center.

BIBLE STORIES according to TUFFY TURTLE
A Romp through the Old Testament with the Spiriturtlelus Family
Written by Joni Lundin McNamara
Illustrations by Susan Stanley

Tuffy Turtle is the first of the Spiriturtlelus

Family gifted with Faith in the Creator God of
All that Is. It is his duty to share this faith and
knowledge in the Creator with all the other
animals.
Throughout the history of the Chosen People of the Old Testament,
Tuffy and his descendants share the news of Gods Love for all of His
Creation - except for one small rabbit, a very skeptical rabbit named J.R.,
who just cannot seem to grasp the idea of Faith in a God he cannot see.
From the beginning in the Land of Abundance and Beauty, to the
days of the Prophets, Isaiah and Micah, these two families of Spiriturtlelus
and Skeptirabbitus travel together. Tuffy talking about a God he cannot
see yet he trusts he doesnt know how he knows, he just knows! And
J.R., the skeptic who just doesnt get it.
These characters and their stories are sure to delight, educate and
entertain all Gods children, no matter the
age!
