Structural Analysis
What is a structure?

Why as engineers should we analyse a structure?

What should be analysed in a structure?

Structural Analysis
Structures are classified into determinate and indeterminate
structures.
Equations of equilibrium
F = 0 , X:Y:Z
M = 0. X:Y:Z

Six equations.
Unknowns > Equations Indeterminate
2 D structures : 3 equations.
Determinate Structures

Fx = 0
Fy = 0 What is the magnitude of reactions?
Mz = 0 How does the Bending moment diagram look ?
Indeterminate Structures

Mohrs Theorem 1 / Moment Area Theorem 1:
The change in slope between the tangents any two points on the elastic
deflected curve equals to the area of M/EI diagram between those points
Mohrs Theorem 2/ Moment Area Theorem 2:
The vertical deviation of a point (C) on the elastic curve from the tangent
at another point on the curve is equal to moment of area under M/EI
diagram computed about vertical line at (C)
