GENERAL SUMMARY
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for the overall supplier quality for purchased parts & services.

This position will be responsible for developing, managing and coordinating suppliers and verifying supplier
quality performance in accordance with the SPX Flow requirements.

This position interacts with Quality, Sourcing, Purchasing & Operations teams, as well as with customers,
suppliers, and other external parties on issues related to supplier selection, part approval, certification, continuous
improvement & supplier development.

The SQE is a high-quality communicator and leader; detail oriented, has a strong technical background, and
effectively drives supplier performance.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Support supplier quality assurance efforts ensuring conformance to standards, specifications & customer
requirements through audits, testing, inspections & monitoring.
Monitor, communicate and improve key supply chain KPIs, including Supplier OTD (Past due), non-
conformance rate and Cost Of Poor Quality (COPQ). Use supplier scorecards and analytical tools to quantify
performance levels of the individual suppliers and use this information to prioritize suppliers in need of
development and/or improvement.
Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate
recurrence of nonconformances
Work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply. Involve the
greater organization as appropriate.
Aid Sourcing, Engineering and Manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers. Conduct
new supplier qualification audits for quality systems, capabilities and conformance to requirements.
Assure supplier understanding of product and submission requirements.
Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects to develop supplier capability of
consistently meeting SPX Flow requirements. Projects may include: process analysis, value stream mapping,
6Sigma, 5S and Kaizen events
Effective selection & management of contracted 3rd party quality inspection or certification professionals.
Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.

SKILLS

Manage stakeholder issues to resolution. Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with stakeholder issues.
Identify, collect, share and implement best practices and lessons learned.
Perform Process Mapping to design and improve processes.
Technical abilities in the use of CI tools (lean and six sigma)
Ability to determine which measurement instrument to use in various situations based on considerations
such as the characteristic to be measured, the required accuracy level, uncertainty. Ability to perform,
analyze, and interpret repeatability and reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies, measurement correlation,
capability, bias, linearity, etc., including both conventional and control chart methods
Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to use RCA tools to identify and implement
interim/containment, correct and preventive actions.

Ability to define, identify, and apply product and process control methods such as control plans, identifying
critical control points, developing and validating work instructions. Ability to evaluate the implementation
and effectiveness of the quality or inspection process including developing sampling plans. Technical ability
to determine sample size (e.g., AQL), selection method (including maintaining sample integrity) and
accept/reject criteria (e.g., zero-defect sampling) in various situations.
Technical ability to define, describe, and classify the seriousness of product and process defects
Technical ability to define, describe, calculate, and use process capability studies, including identifying
characteristics, specifications, and tolerances, developing sampling plans for such studies and establishing
statistical control.
Technical ability to read and understand technical drawings, technical specifications and customer technical
and quality requirement documents.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university and 2 years related experience or knowledge of Quality
Principles and a minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.

Experience implementing change initiatives and developing common quality improvement programs. Experienced
in advanced problem solving tools including, Fishbone, FMEA, 8D, Pareto, Process Mapping. Six Sigma certification
preferred (Green Belt).

Audit experience is helpful, Qualified ISO 9000 Auditor or Lead Auditor preferred

Experience in ISO quality systems and regulatory requirements (may vary per site).
