2. When Valenti starts to talk about this bizarre ideal of what girls are supposed to look
like she links it back to feminism because there is this popular stereotype that says women who
identify as feminists are always ugly. One of the worst things you can call an insecure woman is
ugly, and because all feminists are ugly it keeps them away from these ideas that are supposed
to make themselves feel more comfortable in their own skin. I think these feelings are instilled in
young women because it keeps them away from a movement thats going to help them realize
their own worth, and thats the last thing society wants. The reason why this society works the
way it does is because we constantly make women feel worthless which makes them stay quiet
and take all of the injustices happening to them. The main people benefiting from this is men.
They are the ones who started it and it keeps them at the top. I think the myth that feminism is
man-hating is directly linked to the fact that men are the people benefiting from the violence
and hatred against women, and once women start to stand up for themselves men think that its
some sort of retaliation against them.

4. I do believe once you start to take control of what happens to your body it will help
you make smart decisions about your own sexuality, but not everyone is fortunate enough to
come to this realization. I agree with it because once you do start to make these informed
decisions it makes you feel liberated and even more confident with your own body, but in other
cultures these ideas like waiting until marriage are shoved down womens throats. I grew up in a
catholic Mexican household, so I heard this EVERYWHERE. My mom was the only person that
didnt say things like wait until marriage or birth control is bad, but I still heard it from family
members and at church. Because of this constant preaching many of the girls I grew up with did
not have the proper sex education they deserved and ended up getting pregnant at 15 or catching
an STD. These girls are also not aware of ways to prevent things like pregnancy and STDs
because they were never told since their parents have to work and are left unsupervised. Growing
up in this setting can really prevent you from owning your body and sexuality which keeps you
from making the decisions thats going to make your life better.

6. I think blaming women for the assaults committed against them is the most horrible
and unproductive thing ever. I really dont understand the thought process if Im going to be
honest. Unfortunately, I have seen this many times happen in the media and with some of my
friends who have confided in me about the things that have happened to them. In 2013 an Israeli
judge said that some girls like to be raped after four Palestinian boys raped a thirteen year- old
girl and were looking for an appeal in court. In early 2013 the number of rapes in Hong-Kong
went up dramatically and the Hong-Kong security secretary and advised women to stop drinking
so much. In 2012, Columbia University student Emma Sulkowicz was raped by a fellow student
and former friend but the university did not find sufficient evidence to have him expelled or
convicted. They said because had consensual sex before that they were not able to tell this time
and said that it could have just been a miscommunication between the two. In 2011 an officer
named Michael Sanguinetti told a group of female students that women should not dress like
sluts if they dont want to be raped or victimized. After the controversial Stanford University
rape case Stanford published a page titled Female bodies and alcohol which basically said that
women should avoid drinking alcohol to not be taken advantage of and they also banned alcohol
on campus. In 2012 a judge sentenced a 49 year-old man after he raped a teenage girl but also
said she let herself down by consuming too much alcohol and meeting you. In 2014 a
Canadian judge said a woman could have been prevented from being raped if she kept her knees
together. A British judge also said women should stop drinking themselves to the ground if
they want to prevent rape. These are all examples of the way society blames women for
everything bad that happens to them and normalizes the continuous violence against women. It
almost makes it seem as if women should expect to be assaulted and gives them ways that THEY
should prevent it.
