10 Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology in Education

Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology to Young Children

1. According to some experts the child who become computer

literate at early stage are very well prepared for the school while
others believe that too much involvement of children in
technology may harm them. Although one cannot deny that in
modern world the technology has covered almost all important
aspects of life but it has also made a man dull. Todays
generation is no doubt very much intelligent when it comes to
operating the modern digital devices but in terms of
conversation skills they lack behind. So the question arises is
that how soon the child should be introduced to technology.
When is the right time for them to think about technology and
digital devices. It is hard to sort out like that therefore from
going through the advantages and disadvantages we can figure
out what is best for your child when it comes to computer and
technology.

2. Advantages

3. The advantages that technology can provide to toddlers when it

is introduced at early stage are;

4. 1. Improving the toddlers motor skills

5. Pushing keys and manipulating a mouse gives a child a same
valuable workout as a painting or doodling. That will result in
good eye-hand coordination much like to become very skilled in
later stages when using scissors, putting together a tricky
puzzles or sewing.

6. 2. Technological Awareness and enhancing learning skills

7. The introduction of digital devices such as smartphones, iPad or

laptop will make a child a technological literate. Operating a
children applications on smartphones such as nursery rhymes
sing and learn gives them opportunity to be in control of the
application and learn and enhance their language and
vocabulary.

8. Disadvantages

9. The disadvantage of the technology on the children when

introduced in early stage are;

10. 1. Lacking social interaction

11. The modern day technology might be very much

interacting but only between the user and the screen. The
children when exposed very much to the screens gets addicted
to the technology. They not only get limited to the technology
but they become poor in their social skills. A child needs to build
social skills and need to have face to face fun activity. They
need to interact with other people as no educational software
can compete with parents and other people in teaching
department.

12. 2. Lack of nature appreciation

13. A child learns everything through natures provided five

senses. The reason toddlers touch everything and get into
everything is because that is the way they learn about the world
around them. Once these sense is fully occupied by the
technology and digital devices they ignore the nature around
them. Things like making their hands dirty in the mud, figuring
out how to stable the blocks so they dont tumble down and
butterflying catching will be lost in the toddler.

15. If your child seems to be easily frustrated after the

computer session or smartphone usage have them to limit their
time on these things. Try scaling them back and involve them in
other alternative activities such as cycling, board games and
outdoor games. Involve them in reading books, or make
sculptures from sand and other old fashioned activities that
were done with 80s and 90s kids.

16. Make a time table and limit their time on computer, TV and
videos games. As too much on screen time will most probably
make them dull and lazy. Physical activities are equally
important for the children as studying. Mental and physical
growth both need an equal attention. Activities like role playing,
story telling, walk in the park, playing with play dough etc,
increases the creativity in toddler. The technology at early stage
of childhood is also important but it should have limitations and
supervision as kids do not get addicted to it.

17. What is the right age for children to be introduced to technology?

Is it healthy or good for children to be too reliant on technology? Surely,
there are pros and cons of children using technology and it is difficult to
take a certain stand without delving into the details and fairly assessing
the consequences of the advantages and the negative impacts.

18. Children must use technology. That isnt the debate. The
questions are how much, how often and to what extent. Technology is
not just confined to computer or the old mobile phone that hardly had
any games. Technology includes smart phones, state of the art video
games, different kinds of gadgets and certainly the laptops, tablets and
a whole gamut of gizmos that kids are surrounded with today.

19. Almost every child born today or since the millennial generation is
and will be tech savvy. They will get accustomed and be quite deft with
computers. Parents dont need to try hard or even make an attempt to
get their kids accustomed with computers or mobile phones. It is
amazing to watch a toddler smartly handle a mobile phone or a four
year old conveniently playing a game on a tablet.
20. The older generations would feel that the human species has
evolved and that kids today are preprogrammed to manage such
technological wonders. It is indeed fascinating to watch. There are many
elders from the baby boomer generation and before who are yet to get
accustomed with texting or emailing and here we have kids not even
close to their teens who can write a code or two. Let us talk about the
wonderful perks of technology and the adverse impacts of the same.
Here are the pros and cons of children using technology.

21. List of Pros of Children Using Technology

22. 1. Children Have Better Motor Skills.
We are not talking about teens here but toddlers. Regardless of the
weight of a baby at the time of birth, most toddlers will have chubby
hands. It is natural. Those cute chubby hands get an effective workout
when kids play around with computers, keyboards, mouse or touch-
pads. Even if they are playing videos games or a game on a tablet, their
fingers and hands get a workout. Such exercise is very healthy. The
buttons on modern keyboards or keypads, the touchscreen functions
and the mice of the day are very convenient to handle. Gone are the
days when such keys or clicks of a mouse would require a hard press
and thus have the possibility of causing injury to the tiny bones and their
joints. Kids have absolutely no risk or threat when they use such
gizmos. In effect, toddlers get better control of their fine motor skills.
They can use their fingers and hands more deftly.

23. 2. Improved Cognitive Functions.

For a long time, parents had been worried that watching cartoons would
have a very adverse impact on the childs brain. Scores of studies have
proved that it is quite to the contrary. Cartoons dont make a child dull.
Likewise, many parents thought that playing video games or being with
gizmos may make their kids a little dull or would impair their cognitive
development. Quite to the contrary, technology helps in faster and
better development of cognitive skills. Imagine all those toys that kids of
the baby boomer generation and since have grown up with. Whether it
is a puzzle or scribbling on a drawing book, everything can be attended
to using technology and the latter does much more. There are
interactive apps, video games, different kinds of challenges and
educative programs available on various kinds of devices. Such
products would always improve a kids cognitive skills.
24. 3. Preoccupies Children.
Leave kids with a smart phone or tablet, a handheld video game
console or possibly a PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo and you dont have
to be worried about the child for hours. Kids can spend hours, days and
weeks when they have such devices. There is nothing unsafe, the kids
are not at any risk of getting injured or harmed and they would even
keep silent and calm. No crying, no major mess of paints on the walls or
any such conventional chaos that parents have to deal with when they
have young kids. Technology has changed all that.

25. 4. More Fun for Kids.

Children have a great deal of fun when they are amidst technological
perks. They also enjoy the cause and effect that such devices make
them aware of. Whether it is a simple puzzle game or a race, something
like Angry Birds or a simple first person shooter game, children have fun
and they understand simple aspects of cause and effect, action and
reaction.

26. 5. Technology Exists Everywhere.

Now, moving away from fun, games and frolic, technology is used in
every facet of a childs development. Children using technology at
school, home and everywhere they go would learn much more. A kid
with access to internet can learn more than what ten years in school
would be able to teach them. That doesnt do away with the need for
schooling but technology does make things better. Audio visual
presentations, interactive educational programs, 3D presentations,
audio books and a whole gamut of technological perks has
revolutionized education, and for the better. Kids when taught using
technology and state of the art tools or methods are likely to learn more.
Also, they are likely to remember such experiences as they are
interesting. A boring paragraph reading or lecture on some subject
seldom entices young kids.

27. List of Cons of Children Using Technology

28. 1. Sedentary Lifestyle.
Technological wonders would stimulate a childs brain and would
certainly help in cognitive development but what about the rest of the
body. Kids who are too engrossed and busy with technology will stay
away from the playgrounds, parks and from outdoor activities in general.
Such kids may never develop a penchant for sports or athletics. They
may eventually be unfit, unhealthy and their normal physical
development may also be affected. A child needs to run, fall, jump, race,
play something and do all kinds of exercises that outdoor activities and
sports bring about. Increasingly, children are being swayed away from
such natural joys and exercises of life and that is one reason why
obesity is at an all time high. Other than poor diets, technology is to
blame for this undesirable reality. The way out or solution to this
problem is very simple. Limit the time when kids are allowed to use
technology or even limit the kinds of technological wonders they get
their hands on. This will compel them to go out and do things that kids
have done for centuries.

29. 2. Simulated Satisfaction.

Another very significant impact of children using technology is simulated
satisfaction. The virtual world of technology, whether it is a video game
or a tablet, is all about simulation. So the achievements and skills are
also within the realm of simulation. Everything is intangible. A kid who
excels at virtual archery is not actually a great archer. This sense of
virtual accomplishment or simulated expertise is going to satiate a kid
and he or she may not want to venture out and accomplish something.
This creates another problem. Whenever kids would have some
problems in real life, some failures or some challenges, they would seek
refuge in their own simulated world facilitated by technology. They
would look for solace, comfort or even accomplishments and sense of
satiation in that virtual simulated world. The fallout of this can be far-
reaching and life altering, certainly in a negative sense.

30. 3. Less Socialable.

They would have less family time. Interpersonal relationships will be
difficult to develop and they may not even have many friends. Even if
they do socialize, they may struggle to mingle with kids. The anonymity
and the sense of empowerment that technology provides actually dont
help a child to become expressive, an articulate communicator or an
empathetic person. To the contrary, a child may be a little cold to
emotions, she or he may have a completely different range of reactions
to real life situations and might not even feel the need to do certain
things that kids should do, for instance chores or participating in
something as a family.

31. 4. Developmental Disabilities.

Let us now talk about some inferences from a wide range of studies and
researches that have been conducted over the past years trying to
understand the fallout of excessive use of technology among kids.
Today, more kids have development disability. More kids are obese
than ever before. More kids are being diagnosed with psychiatric
disorders. ADHD, coordination disorder, anxiety, sensory processing
disorder and depression among kids are on the rise. Also, let us not
forget the premise of cyber bullying.

32. 5. Not The Most Cost Efficient.

Technology isnt cheap. When children using technology start
demanding more, it can become quite taxing and often unbearable for
parents. Ten year olds and twelve year olds demand a new mobile
phone every year. Teens and younger kids expect fancy gadgets and
technological devices on their birthdays and being compelled to spend
on such gadgets, even if they are for educational purposes, can be very
inconvenient for parents.

33. 6. Less Connected.

The world has become a smaller place. In an increasingly globalized
world, people are becoming increasingly nuclear. That has lead to most
people living alone or lonely lives. Solitude may be desirable but
isolation is not. Technology can easily make a child isolated. At the
early stages or during the formative years, the child would enjoy this
isolation but sooner or later, this affinity for technology and the resulting
isolation will become the source of agony.

34. Technology is one of the most valuable tools that we have available at our finger tips every
day. You can do virtually anything with your smart phone, tablet, or computer. From seeing
what time a movie starts, ordering a pizza, and paying your bills the possibilities for
technology are endless. And not only are they endless, they are constantly improving to
make the things we have to do everyday easier. It sounds pretty awesome right? That
thought might change when you put our youth and their education into the mix. Many people
believe that the abundance of technology in our schools is hindering students ability to think
for themselves and learn old style methods of research. People who support the use of
technology in the class room argue that they no longer have to. Its a touchy subject, that
cannot be solved just by an analysis, but learning all of the advantages and disadvantages of
having technology in the classroom can certainly give you a well rounded and informed
opinion.
35. Advantages of Technology In Education
36. 1. Parents Peace of Mind
Cell phones now allow us to stay in contact with our friends and family anywhere that we are.
It is how students communicate problems and emergencies with their parents when they are
at school as well.
37. 2. The Information Highway
Any answer to any question can be found with a few clicks of the keys on the computer or
smart phone. Powerful search engines allow an organized and simply way to find the
answers that students may need for assignments or projects.
38. 3. Broaden The Mind
Before the internet, children knew what their family taught them. This caused their political
and religious views to be the only ones that the children knew. Having access to the
technology will expose them to things outside of their parents interests and help them to form
their own opinions.
39. 4. Brings Some Fun Into The Classroom
Learning the same exact way from the same person every day can really getboring. This
boredom turns into a lack of motivation in the students. When they are able to integrate
computer learning into their normal schedule, they become much more excited to learn.
40. 5. Applicable Education
In the working world, in nearly every job you may take, you have to know how to operate a
computer. Teaching this skill in children early will give them an advantages and a learning
curve for when they are adults.
41. Disadvantages of Technology In Education
42. 1. Access To Inappropriate Content
The biggest concern when it comes to the use of technology in schools is how easy
pornographic, violent, and other inappropriate materials can be accessed and viewed. This
could cause big problems if the material is shared with other students while in the classroom.
43. 2. A Disconnected Youth
This harmful effect of technology has already come to light in todays world. People are
attached to their screens almost 24/7, which is causing an entirely new set of social issues to
pop up. This translates into the school system in a bit of a different way, however. More and
more students are experiencing social anxieties when it comes to face to face interactions,
but are perfectly fine socializing online.
44. 3. The Cyberbullying Trap
Giving students access to anonymous accounts and endless contact avenues can only lead
to trouble. Cyber bullying has become a real and in our face problem among young people
today. This harassment has no end, which includes the class room. There is also no way to
monitor or discipline students who are involved.
45. 4. Inevitable Cheating
While have an easy access to information may seem like a great thing, it can become a real
problem in a test taking environment. Cell phones have made cheating easier than ever. You
no longer have to figure out how to write all of the answers down, you can just look them up!
46. 5. A Major Distraction
Attentiveness drops drastically in the classroom when students have their cell phones or
other technologies out. The focus shifts from their teacher and education, to whatever they
are looking at, playing, or doing on their phones.
47. Important Facts About Technology In Education
48. As much as 60 percent of schools in America, issue laptops or tablets to their students.
49. 41% of students are in favor of taking virtual classes.
50. 50% of students in middle and high school use the internet to complete work 3 times a week.
51. The students that study on computers, phones, or tablets, study for an average of 40 minutes
more per week than those who do not.

Tiger is a wild animal which is very common in our country. It is the largest animal of the cat species and they
grow up quite large. It can grow up to 11 feet and can weight more than 300 kg. Tigers generally live about 25
years and they require a large habitat area that supports their prey requirements.

Most of the tigers of the world are found in the widely are across Asia, Turkey and Russia. The most
recognisable feature of a tiger is its dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside. They
have got a big head and sharp teeth claws. It is a carnival animal that mostly depends on the meat of other
animals. The largest number of tigers can be found in India and the total subspecies and the numbers of tigers
are decreasing over time. Tigers are good swimmers and are often found crossing rivers and lakes in heavy
tides.

Tigers usually hunt alone unlike other animals that prey in a group. They first target their prey and aim at it.
When the target is fixed, it attacks with a sudden ferocity overpowering the prey with the strength and size.
Tigers have great leaping ability and can run very fast.

This formidable large wild animal is getting extinct over time and they have become numbered in the world.
Approximately only 3500 tigers are present in the world and the number is decreasing. Many tigers are held in
the zoo for public and they usually live on supplied meat.

In my opinion, since the human is superior to any other living species, we have a responsibility to prevent the
extinction of the tiger as we are the primary reason for their extinction. Wild animals are part of the eco-system
we live in and we have a natural responsibility to preserve a balanced eco-system for our own good.
