INPUT OF SEMINAR :
Teoh Shi Sheng works as an environment engineer at Gamuda Engineering Sdn. Bhd. He
shared with us about the job scope of an environment engineer. He is responsible to conduct monthly
environmental inspection and annually internal audit. At the same time, maintain, revise and update
management procedure documents based on ISO 14000. In addition, he must ensure compliance of
all projects with DEIA, EMP , Legal and other requirement and involve in SIRIM annual re-
certification. Last but not least, as an environemnt engineer he also need to study and provide
environmental related documents and presentation for tendering purpose.

During the sharing session, he also shared with us about the Ikigai concept. Ikigai is a Japanese
concept that means "a reason for being. The word ikigai is usually used to indicate the source of
value in one's life or the things that make one's life worthwhile. Secondly, the word is used to refer to
mental and spiritual circumstances under which individuals feel that their lives are valuable. It's not
necessarily linked to one's economic status or the present state of society. Even if a person feels that
the present is dark, but they have a goal in mind, they may feel ikigai. Behaviours that make us feel
ikigai are not actions we are forced to takethese are natural and spontaneous actions. Our ikigai
is the point where a number of aspects come together, namely what we love, what we are good at,
what the world needs and what we can be paid for. It is where our passion, mission, craft and calling
intersect. The basis for finding our ikigai is usually an extensive search for yourself.

IMPROVEMENTS:
There are some problems during and after the sharing talks. Here is a comment on the
problems that arise during the lecture session;
Unsuitable time for talk to be held which is in evening.
The unsatisfactory presence of students.
However, some suggestions can also be made to avoid the problem occur at the next lecture
session. Here is a suggestion that can be implemented to make the talks alive;
Reschedule the talk time. (morning or noon).
Organize activities such as group competition, quizzes and so on.
Students should fill the front seat to be clearer and easier to ask.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, we get a new knowledge about certain field in civil engineering from this
talk. We also learn about a career development plan. We hope that this talk will help
students to gain confident for their future.

we learned how to managed a road project.
-Scope of work for this project are;
To update and widen the existing Jalan Reko (State Route B17) commencing 1.2km from UKM
intersection in Bangi to the bridge approach at KTM Flyover in Kajang Town of about 8.15km
length to JKR U4 geometric design standard.
To demolish existing bridge at CH. 125
To replace existing bridge at CH. 125 with arch culvert complying with JKR US dual carriageway
geometric design standard.
To widen the bridge at Sg. Tangkas (CH. 2325) and Sg Rekoh.
Drainage works including extension of culverts and roadside drains.
To improve the riding comfort of the existing pavement by regulating and overlaying.
To relocate existing street lighting (where affected)
To propose street lighting along Jalan Bangi Lama/Jalan Reko (B17) where it is not available
- We also was exposed with issues that happen during this project.
- Issues;
Land Acquisition
Design Changes
Flactuation Cost of Material
Relocation of Utility services
Public complains
Traffic Management Plan.

4
-We also know that there might be change in design during the project according to situation at the
project site. This change need to get the permission from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) before its
proceed.
CONCLUSION:
This seminar helps us on understanding of planning and extension of road that involved
UKM land and also public land which we have to deal with the authority before we can
proposed the location and start the constuction. Besides that, because of the site is
located near UKM its quite related to our IDP project that we have to proposed for the
construction of road which have to be connected to existing road.
