Learning Experience: Sensory Sensory bin bug hunt with lentils and different sized
cups
I am organizing this cognitive learning experience at the sensory table with 2 bins filled
with different colored lentils, different sized bugs and different sized cups on each side of
a square table. With this experience, the children are engaged in exploring their sensory
skills as they discover the different textures they touch in the bin which includes the
lentils, bugs and the cups.
Objectives:
1. The children will develop 5.3 Fine Motor Skills from the Physical Domain as
they have the opportunity to use their fingers to feel the lentils, different textured
bugs and the different sized cups.
2. The children will also further develop 3.5 Using Descriptive Language to
Explain, Explore and Extend skills from the Communication, Language and
Literacy Domain as they have the opportunity to use sentences to describe the
different bugs they discover under the different colored lentils.
3. The children will also further develop 4.12 Counting Skills from the Cognitive
Domain as they have the opportunity to count each bug they find under the
lentils.
Materials:
1 table
4 chairs
2 bins filled with different colored lentils, different textured bugs and different
sized cups
Implementation:
1. I will set up the activity at the sensory table.
2. I will provide the children with 2 bins filled with lentils, bugs and cups.
3. I will invite the children to try to find the bugs that are hidden under the lentils. .
4. Throughout the activity, I will communicate with the children and ask them some
questions about what kind of bugs they found and how the lentils and bugs feel.
Teaching Strategies:

Invitation:
As I set up the activity at the sensory table with two bins filled with lentils, bugs and
cups, I will invite the children to help me find the different textured bugs that are hidden
under the lentils.

Questions:
Throughout the activity, as the children are engaged in playing the activity I will sit with
them and ask them some questions like what kind of bugs they found, what color the bug
is and how it feels.
