Experience

Southern Arizona VA Health Care System- Leadership Rotation 180 hours


Taking a leadership role in caring for veterans immediately after various procedures with multiple acute and
chronic illnesses under the supervision of a preceptor.
Provided full patient care independently for 5-6 patients on a 25 bed medical-surgical floor, advocating for
patient with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure patient comprehension of treatment plans.

Pima Health Department- Population Health 75 hours


Partnered with PCHD in assessing a Census Tract within a community, as well as performing key informant
interviews with partners of the community to assess community health risks, patterns of illness, and areas of
health improvement.
Conducted an elementary school class on proper hang hygiene techniques for 27 preschool children.

St. Josephs Hospital- High Acuity 270 hours


Care for a wide range of high acuity patients with a variety of life-threatening conditions, such as stokes, head
traumas, comas, and intracranial hemorrhages.
Gained experience with central catheters, extra-ventricular drains, chest tubes, titration drips, and ventilator
management.
Responsibilities include performing full and focused assessments q 2hrs, Analyzing ABGs, CBC profiles, and EKG
results, administering PO, SQ, IM, IV and IVPB medications, removing Foley catheters, providing wound care,
removing staples and sutures, sterile dressing changes, starting peripheral IVs, suctioning oral airways, and
assisting with patient controlled analgesia pumps.

Southern Arizona VA Health Care System- Psychiatric 75 hours


Care for veterans with a variety of metal illnesses, using trainings in substance abuse, therapeutic
communication, and co-occurring disorders.
Responsibilities include Psycho-social assessments of patients and their responses to treatments, participating
in group therapy sessions, using therapeutic communication to individually talk with patients to gain insight to
their illness, de-escalating patients who pose a threat to self and staff, and participating in Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy.

Tucson Medical Center- Obstetrics 75 hours


Assisted RNs with pre and post labor care, as well as assisted with the laboring process.
Responsibilities include pre, intra, and post partum assessments of newborns and post-partum mothers,
evaluated patient care needs, prioritized treatments, utilized Postpartum Hemorrhage Protocol, and
providing incision care for post-surgical mothers.
Partnered with TMC to educate new mothers on ways to prevent SIDS in newborns.

Tucson Medical Center- Medical-Surgical 135 hours


Assisted with care for 4-5 patients while conducting precise assessments, pain status, and functional abilities,
while observing patient safety, risk management and following infection control policies.

Responsibilities include assembling infusion pumps, prepping tubing/medications, programing infusion rates,
administering medications, inserting Foley catheters, removing surgical drains, providing wound care, inserting
NG tubes, and patient/family education regarding diagnosis, injury prevention, and therapeutic treatments.

Banner Diamond Childrens Hospital- Pediatrics 135 hours


Care for children on pediatric floor, PICU, NICU, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Emergency Department
Responsibilities including educating parents on childs care, tube feedings for NICU patients, administering
medications, bathing, taking vitals, assisting with dressing changes, wound care, and observing RN with
administering chemotherapy.
Utilized Child Life Specialist when performing invasive procedures.

Southern Arizona VA Health Care System- Long Term Care 112 hours
Care for long term veteran residents with various illnesses
Performed direct patient care aimed at increasing physical, mental, and spiritual health of the elderly
population. Responsibilities include performing assessments, taking vitals, administering oral medications,
bathing, skin breakdown prevention, and using effecting communication to gain insight to personal health
complaints or concerns.

Yuma Regional Hospital- Post Op Volunteer 60 hours


Shadowed multiple nurses in the medical-surgical unit observing how to conduct assessments, take vitals, and
administer medications to prepare for a future career in nursing.
