1st Grade- Pout-pout Fish

Objectives:
Students will recite the rhyme from the story, Pout-Pout Fish with correct words and
rhythm
Student will perform a steady beat when reciting the rhythm through body percussion
Students will perform the body percussion with 80% accuracy
Students will perform the rhyme using words and unpitched percussion instruments

Activity #1 (Day 1): Students will recite the song from the story, pout, Pout Fish with correct
words and rhythm. Student will perform a steady beat when reciting the rhythm through body
percussion
1. T meets Ss in the hallway and provides them with instructions when entering the room:
I want all of us to pretend were ninjas sneaking into the room!
2. T and Ss walk into the room silently
3. T and Ss sing greeting song, Buenos Tardes
4. T tells Ss about the new story theyre reading today
5. T reads Ss the story
6. T asks Ss what parts are repeated a lot in the story
7. Ss repsonds!
8. T: Yes! Im a pout pout fish with a pout pout face, etc
9. T: Now I want to re-read this story, but can you guys fill in for the part that repeats a
lot?
10. Ss: Yes!
11. T and Ss read the book again
12. T: Hmmm, but I think something is missing!
13. T walks over to computer/projector and goes to incredibox
14. T and Ss come up with their own beat
15. T and Ss read the book with the beat in the background\

Activity #2 (Day 2): Students will perform the rhyme using words and unpitched percussion

1. T greets Ss at the door


2. T and Ss walk into the room silently
3. T and Ss sing greeting song, Buenos Tardes
4. T: Remember the book we read last time?
5. Ss responds
6. T and Ss review the previous lesson
7. T: Now can you guys speak the part that repeats a lot?
8. Ss speak the song/poem
9. T adds BP, T and Ss echo when learning BP
10. T: Great work!
11. T starts speaking and playing a tubano
12. T asks Ss what she did for the drum part
13. Ss responds/ T guides them to the answer
14. T selects Ss to play tubanos while also given the instructions and expectations
15. T and Ss performs the rhyme with tubaos
16. T shows additional Ss the tambourine part
17. T and Ss reading book with the added parts with the back track
18. Repeat any steps if necessary
