Problem 4: The four plates shown in cross section are very long in the direction normal to the
place of the cross section shown. Obtain the value of the configuration factor F 1-3 and F 1-2 .

Problem 5: A person holds her open hand (approximated by a circular disk 10 cm in diameter) 6
cm directly above and parallel to a black heater element in the form of a circular disk 20 cm in
diameter (such as an electric range element). The heater element is at 600 K. How much radiant
energy from the heater element is incident on the hand?

Problem 6: A hollow cylindrical heating element is insulated on its outside surface. The element
has a 20 cm inside diameter and is 20 cm long. The black internal surface is to be held at 1000 K.
The surroundings are in vacuum and are at 500 K. Both end of the cylinder are open to
surroundings. Estimate the energy that must be supplied to the element.
