Classroom Layout

My classroom layout is designed with the students in mind, as they are the center of the

classroom and its instruction. All supplemental materials in the class will be constructed around

the students to maximize learning. Entering the class, there is a small round table to the left of

the door. As the students enter the room, they will pick up their bell work from this table.

Students absent from class will also find materials from the class they missed, as well as

instructions to complete any activities or assignments they missed at this table.

Next to the round table will be two desktop computers. These computers will be used

periodically throughout the year, predominately for students who have completed assignments

early and wish to use the computer for additional work on school assignments. To the right of the

desktops are four tables. Students will sit in groups of four at their tables, rather than sitting in

individual desks. This will be implemented to encourage communication and maximize

collaboration.

The projector above the students is connected to the smartboard at the front of the room.

Shelves are to the right of the smartboard. This is where the inbox will be for the Walkers of

each group to turn in collected bell work, homework, and in class assignments. To the far right of

the room, a bookshelf and couch will be found. This area is designated as the classrooms

library. Students may check out books from the library as resources for class projects, in addition

to recreational reading. Students are only allowed to sit on the Library Couch when they are

reading. This space has been designed to increase reading and research enthusiasm in the

classroom.
In the back right-hand corner of the classroom, my desk will be found. I do not plan on

staying at my desk during class time, therefore, it is important that my desk reside in the back.

The flow of the classroom is not disrupted in this way. When I am at my desk, absent students

will be able to turn in their missing assignments directly to me. To the left of my desk is a round

table. This is where students will fill out their Classroom Library Book Sign out Sheet. This table

will also be utilized for one on one instruction. If a student (or students) are struggling to grasp a

concept, they may work at this back table with the help of me or another student.
