is bringing home in their Friday
Folder a JA Certificate. I learned
Last week that if they complete
3 JA courses at any time during
their schooling they are eligible to
apply for a JA Scholarship to
further their education at a trade
school, junior college, or college.
Our representative suggested you
keep them in a safe place. We will
do another course in 2nd grade!
Learn-a-thon Pledges!
I totaled our Learn-a-thon
pledges today! We collected over
$400.00! If anyone would still
like to contribute you may still
send it in on Monday. We have a
family of 4 that we will shop for!

Reading/Language Arts
Our learning targets for reading this week have included:
*the short u vowel sound; final consonant blends like
(st, nk, ck, ng . . . .)
*blending words.
*rhyming words
*understanding syllables
*understanding cause & effect in our reading
*learning new vocabulary.
*being able to identify exclamatory sentences. (!!)
*reading just right books
Our Writing learning targets have focused on:
*writing a personal narrative! We have worked on writing about a personal
event in our own lives (This is a longer piece and we are digging deeper and
will have a PUBLISHED copy).
*writing complete sentences
*adding details, dialogue, and voice (something to show our feelings) and,
*the conventions of capitals and periods in the right places (were getting
better).
*We had our 1st Authors Celebration! We shared our published stories with
each other and celebrated good writing. We learned to complement one
another for good word choice/vocabulary, for using dialogue, or for great
illustrations. We used juice boxes to toast our successes!
Social Studies
In Social Studies this week we have Math
