La industria del libro es un sector clave dentro de
la estructura productiva de la Ciudad de Buenos Ai-
res. Se trata de uno de los actores centrales dentro
del universo de las industrias culturales porteas.
Su importancia radica en la cantidad de empresas
que el mismo representa -en su mayora pymes-, en
su volumen de comercializacin y su incidencia en
el PBI y en el empleo. A su vez, la industria edito-
rial es atravesada por las dinmicas empresariales
de concentracin, fusin y absorcin, producto de
la globalizacin e internacionalizacin de la propia
industria, todo lo cual requiere de un Estado mode-
rador, que acompae el desarrollo y crecimiento de
empresas locales, tanto en el mercado interno como
en los mercados internacionales, en un contexto de
diversidad de actores y contenidos.
En ese sentido, porque apostamos a posicionar al
sector de industrias culturales dentro de una estra-
tegia de desarrollo de la marca Buenos Aires en el
mundo. Y porque estamos convencidos que pro-
mover la produccin y difusin de estos sectores
es fomentar la diversidad y potenciar el desarrollo
productivo local, entendemos que la generacin de
acciones de promocin de su oferta exportable es
un eslabn clave e indispensable dentro de nuestra
poltica de produccin.
Editoriales Argentinas va por ese camino. Aqu
presentamos su Edicin 2007.

Presentation
The publishing industry is a key
sector in the productive structure of
the City of Buenos Aires. It is also a
main actor in the universe of cultural
industries of the City.
Its importance is based on the
number of companies involved
most of them are small and medium
size enterprises-, in its volume of
commerce and in its impact in the
Gross Internal Product and in em-
ployment. At the same time, the pub-
lishing industry is influenced by the
business dynamics of concentration,
merger and absorption, as a result of
globalization and internationalization
of the industry. All this emphasizes
the need of an involved State, which
could accompany the development
and growth of the local companies,
both in the local and in the inter-
national markets, in a context of
diversity of actors and contents.
In that sense, and because we bet
to position the sector of the cultural
industries in a development strategy
of Buenos Aires brand in the world.
And because we are convinced
that promoting the production and
the diffusion of these sectors is to
promote diversity and to strengthen
the local productive development,
we understand that the generation of
promotion actions of its exportable
offer is a key and indispensable step
in our production policy.
Argentinean Publishers go in that
direction. We present here its 2007
Edition.

El desarrollo del mercado internacional, para la
promocin de la industria editorial local, es uno de
los ejes centrales de la poltica de promocin de las
industrias culturales que estamos llevando adelante.
La generacin de una estrategia exportadora efi-
caz y una mejor insercin internacional de las edito-
riales locales aporta no slo beneficios comerciales
para el sector que, como es sabido, tiene efectos
tambin en el mercado local. Esta poltica tambin
genera condiciones favorables a la diversidad cul-
tural: los catlogos de nuestras pymes editoriales
expresan, acabadamente, la riqueza de autores y
gneros tan caractersticos de nuestra indentidad y
de nuestra otrora marca en el imaginario mundial
que, poco a poco, estamos recuperando.
La importante recuperacin que est experimen-
tando el sector con apuestas de riesgo, variadas,
de calidad en contenido y diseo requieren de un
Estado que acompae su desarrollo. Sin duda esa
accin conjunta sentar los cimientos del futuro de
esta industria.
Actividades de promocin, presencia en ferias in-
ternacionales, nuevos canales de difusin para la
produccin local, el desarrollo de plataformas de
exportacin, todo ello para que las industrias cul-
turales tengan entrada y luego puedan jugar en el
mercado internacional. Esa es nuestra apuesta y ha-
cia all vamos.

One of the main goals of our cultural
industries policies is the development
of international market, in order to
promote our local industries. In this
case, the publishing houses of Buenos
Aires.
The generation of an effective
exporting strategy, and a better
international insertion of local
publishing houses adds commercial
benefits for the sector, with a
considerable impact in the local
market too.
This policy also generates favorable
conditions for cultural diversity:
the catalogues of our publishing
small and medium size enterprises
express the richness of authors and
genres that are part of our identity.
They also represent a brand that we
used to have in the imaginary of the
world, and from the past years we are
working on recovering it.
The relevant recovery of this sector
is going through with risking bets as
part of their diversity and with high
quality in their content and in their
design- requires a State that supports
and accompanies this development.
There is no doubt that it is this joint
action the one that will make the
future improvement of this industry
possible.
Promotion activities, participation
on international fairs, new diffusion
channels for the local production,
the development of exportation
platforms, they all tend to facilitate
the entrance and the performance
of the cultural industries in the
international market.
That is our bet. There is where are we
are going to.

Las industrias culturales y de diseo son sectores
productivos estratgicos para la economa de la
Ciudad, y poseedores de un fuerte potencial para
la apertura de nuevos mercados. Por ello es clave la
generacin de estrategias de desarrollo de merca-
dos, teniendo en cuenta las diferentes herramientas
de apoyo a la exportacin y las caractersticas pro-
pias de cada uno de los sectores.
La realizacin de acciones de promocin comer-
cial; el desarrollo de materiales de difusin de la
oferta exportable; la difusin de informacin cali-
ficada relativa al comercio exterior de estos secto-
res; el desarrollo de actividades de capacitacin y
asistencia tcnica, son todas acciones conducentes
a la mejora del perfil exportador de las empresas de
base cultural de la Ciudad.
Esta segunda edicin del Catlogo Editoriales
Argentinas va en ese sentido: ms difusin para la
produccin de las pymes editoriales de la Ciudad. El
mismo rene en formato bilinge- la informacin

El PROGRAMA OPCIN LIBROS fomenta
la produccin y difusin de las pequeas y
medianas editoriales y libreras asociadas. La
iniciativa surgi teniendo en cuenta ciertas
inquietudes del sector editorial argentino:
entre los obstculos que las editoriales inde-
pendientes deben enfrentar se encuentran
la escasa visibilidad de sus ttulos en las li-
breras y las dificultades econmicas para
llevar a acabo campaas de difusin masiva
que les permitan competir con las ofertas de
los grandes grupos editoriales.
A travs de la conformacin de un catlo-
go cuidadosamente seleccionado para cada
edicin de OPCIN LIBROS, se fomentan y
promueven las ediciones de calidad de las
PYMES editoriales, creando espacios desta-
cados en los lugares de venta y garantizan-
do una importante difusin de prensa. Las
editoriales PYMES proponen varios ttulos
de reciente edicin y un prestigioso Conse-
jo Asesor selecciona un conjunto de textos
que pasan a formar parte del CATLOGO OP-
