GOPNIKI

gopnik
the gopnik, plural "gopniki" or "gopota" are originally, russian lower class (and by
lower class i do not imply that there is a middle one) youth from the criminal regions
of moscow, who were controlled by the local mafias. In 1980s and 1990s, developed
into a youth subculture that opposed other subcultures such as the bikers, the punks,
the KPSS, etc. just for the hell of it.
Their native language is mat, and they feed themselves through robberies, known as
"gop stop" and small operations. their most common attire are fake addidas track-
suits.
They often assiciate themselves with the Skins, or the neo-nazimovements, and beat
up asians, caucaus peoples, blacks, jews, and homosexuals, as well as
their main enemies, the punks.
Basically, they are trash with no past, culture, or education, and with a future that
consists of Kutuzka ((slammer) or the military, and later death from heroin , or liver
cyrosis, like the rest of us.
Etymology[edit]
Gopnik is most likely derived from the Russian slang term for a street robbery: gop-
stop (Russian: -).[3]
However, it could also be related to GOP, the acronym for the Gorodskoye Obshchestvo
Prizreniya. These were almshouses for the destitute created by the Bolshevik government after
the October Revolutionin 1917. According to Dahl's Explanatory Dictionary, a
Russian explanatory dictionary (first published in the 19th century), an old slang word for
"sleeping on street" was "" (literally, "to gop") something that was related to the
"mazuricks" or the criminals of Saint Petersburg.[3]

STHERIOTYPES AND BEHAVIOUR

ORIGINS OF SQUAT

Its comfortable
They spent lots of time outdoors as there were no tv and as the benches were dirty they ended
up inventing the squat. So squatting came naturally and became a habit for most kids.

Also, most toilets in schools were squatting toilets, so that had some influence
That comes from the pure utility: class photos were taken every year, and to make whole class
of 30 student fit in one photo, boys were usually squatting in the first row, and girls were
standing behind them in the second row. So the boys gained habit of taking photos in
squatting position. Eventually, it became cool to take photos while squatting.

Squatting position, and many other attributes, come from the customs during the Tsar times
of pre-revolutionary Russia when convicts (gopniki) were escorted by guards to their
destinations. In order to prevent unwanted actions by prisoners, guards traditionally ordered
prisoners to squat down. Squatting allowed guards to predict prisoners intentions easier.
Additionally, this same posture allowed prisoners to relax and rest while avoiding getting
dirty.

In a typical overcrowded prison cell, its difficult to find a seat, so there is nothing left, but to
squat down. Quickly, this position became so firmly embedded in the inmates habits that
many find it difficult to get rid of. Former inmates often recognize each other from a distance
because of squatting habit.
FOOD
1.KVAS
Kvass is a traditional Slavic fermented beverage commonly made from rye bread,[1] known in
many Eastern European countries and especially in Ukraine and Russia as black bread. The
colour of the bread used contributes to the colour of the resulting drink. It is classified as a non-
alcoholic drink by Russian standards, as the alcohol content from fermentation is typically low
(0.51.0%).

Cheeki Breeki
A quote used by NPCs in S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow Of Chernobyle. The full quote is "
!" Which in phonetic english is "A nu cheeki breeki iv
damke." It translates into english into "One, Two- You're on top!" In reference to
checkers of stacking to make a king. It is a metaphor for having the advantage, to
flank, etc. It was later put into a viral video of Russians dancing

Origin
In the 2007 first-person shooter game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of
Chernobyl, which takes place in an alternate reality where a
second nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, Ukraine triggers an
epidemic-scale mutation caused by radiation exposure, non-
player characters (NPCs) of the Bandit faction repeat several
stock lines in Russian language. Among them is , -
! (phonetically: A nu chiki-briki i v damki! /
One, two youre on top!), a part nursery rhyme and a part
idiomatic expression that translates to Put a fucking bullet in his
forehead, which is also referenced in a Russian chanson tune
broadcast on the Bandits radio transmission. The tune is loosely
based on actual song called , (phonetically: Hop,
moosorok; Heyho, little cop) that gained memetic popularity in
Russia around the time when S.T.A.L.K.E.R was released
