Materials

C Trumpet
Music stand
Computer with Max 7 (I used a MacBook Pro)
CAD E-100 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (or comparable model)
Foot pedal
Two (2) speakers in stereo setup
Stopwatch (recommended but not required)

Performance Notes

Play into the microphone, with the bell about 6 inches away from the mic
During the lip slides at beginning, emphasize with an accent the registral break/frack
where it happens naturally for the performer
Make sure that the accents are defined enough to be heard clearly through the
texture when they are repeated by means of the delayer
In moments where no dynamic markings are present, follow dynamic gestures which
complement the contour of the piece
Take breaths when needed, giving priority to not breaking up slurred passages
The performer is encouraged to utilize whole-step intervals during the measures
where there are headless notes (odd numbers 3-15)
If you care to keep precise time, use the stopwatch to track the time it takes to play
each measure; for reference, the points at which the performer should arrive at each
measure (in seconds, e.g. 14) are as follows: 0, 8, 18, 30, 40, 56, 71, 85, 98, 110,
121, 131, 140, 148, 155, 161, 166, 170, 173, 181, 191, 203 (the end).
Still, the piece is flexible temporally, so the times listed above are mere suggestions
The performer is to press down the foot pedal at each rehearsal number; the
performer should press it down immediately after he or she plays the accented note
(sfz) as to mask the transition between the presets
