On September 11th, 2001 aggressors related to Islamic radical group Al-Qaeda

hijacked four planes and did suicide attacks against the targets on the United States.

Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World trade center in New

York. Almost 3,000 individuals were killed during this attack, this activated major U.S.

initiatives to combat termism and it was defined by the president of the time George W.

Bush

The U.S. drove coalition began attacks on Taliban-controlled Afghanistan with an

extreme bombing campaign by American and English powers. Logistical help was given

by different countries including France, Germany, Australia and Canada and, later,

troops were given by the counter Taliban Northern alliance rebels. The invasion of

Afghanistan was the opening salvo in the United States "war on terrorism" and a

reaction to the September 11, 2001, psychological oppressor assaults on New York.

Named "Operation Enduring Freedom" in U.S. military parlance, the invasion of

Afghanistan was planned to target fear based terrorist Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaida

organization. (Witte, 2017) In the weeks prior to the invasion, both the United States

and the U.N. Security Council had demanded that the Taliban turn over Osama bin

Laden for prosecution. After the air campaign softened Taliban defenses, the coalition

began a ground invasion, with Northern Alliance forces providing most of the troops

and the U.S. and other nations giving air and ground support. Al-Qaida fighters

continued to hide out in Afghanistans mountainous Tora Bora region, where they were

engaged by anti-Taliban Afghan forces, backed by U.S. Special Forces troops. Al-

Qaida soon initiated a truce, which is now believed to have been a ploy to allow Osama

bin Laden and other key al-Qaida members time to escape into neighboring Pakistan.

The bunker and cave complex used by al-Qaida at Tora Bora had been captured, but

there was no sign of bin Laden. Later he was found and then killed.

The discipline of international relations, constructivism is the claim that

significant aspects of international relations are historically and socially constructed,

rather than inevitable consequences of human nature or other essential characteristics

of world politics. Constructivism theory is the reason why the United States thought it

was a good idea to invade Afghanistan is because it was in their best interest to

retaliate against the attack from 9/11. The United States is considered the worlds only

superpower because of its historical role of world leadership ( Pevehouse & Goldstein,

2017, p. 44). Because the United States have always showed their power they had to

decide to attack the Al-Qaida. Economically and politically it was in the best interest of

the country to invade then. They acted on what they have been saying all of these

years. The united states did what they had to do to show them that they cant be pushed

around.

As you can see is it evident that the constructivism theory is one of the best ways

to explain why the Unites States had to go to war with Afghanistan. It explains that the

United States had to go to war because they had to show it was best in interest to

retaliate from the attacks on 9/11.
