Classroom Management Plan

Philosophy

I believe that all students should have a safe environment to learn. This means that

all students are expected to behave as mature young adults and should always come

to class with their best foot forward. As a music educator, I also believe that each

and every student has the right to a basic education in music, so students are

expected to treat the content and classroom materials with respect out of courtesy

for the other students.

Classroom Rules and Expectations

Students will put forth their best efforts at all times in order to move the

ensemble along.

Students will respect others with their words and actions including keeping

their hands and feet to themselves.

Students will follow instructions given by the teacher and other student

leaders.

Students will respect the classroom materials and take care of them for long-

lasting use.

Students will arrive to class every day with the proper materials needed

including a pencil to mark their scores.

Students will raise their hands if they have questions or concerns.

Students will not use their cell phones in the classroom unless the teacher

has designated them for a specific project or assignment.

Rewards

Students are expected to always be on their best behaviors during class, but

students may receive rewards for excellent work in the classroom. Students can be

rewarded for acts such as:

Helping another student with their vocal parts

Showing above and beyond enthusiasm for a certain piece of music by

demonstrating superior artistry

Helping to keep the classroom organized

Assisting students with homework or other assignments for the class

Consistently arriving early to class to help set up for the class period

Rewards for behaviors such as the ones listed above can consist of:

Extra credit on a homework assignment

The opportunity to run a sectional rehearsal with a certain voice part of the

choir

A raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the

semester

The opportunity to select a social event for the choir to become closer

Consequences

Similarly, students who do not follow the expectations will be given consequences

for their actions. The sequence of consequences is as follows:

1. Student-Teacher meeting to discuss the issue at hand and to set up a plan of

action moving forward.

2. A letter will be sent home to the parents to address the plan that was set up

and how the student did not follow it.

3. A phone call to the parents involving the teacher to discuss how this issue

can be addressed and if the plan of action could be revised.

4. A detention will be issued if the student continues to act up.

5. The student will be sent to higher up authorities in the school such as the

Dean or Principle to further address the issue at hand.
