1. ELIGIBILITY:
(a) ADVANCE MOUNTAINERING COURSE is for trainees graded A only in Basic Mountaineering course from NIM, Uttarkashi, HMI ,
Darjeeling, JIM,Pahalgam (J&K), ITBP Trg Centre Auli, Joshimath, Dist- Chamoli, ABBIM & AS, Manali and SGMI Gangtok.
(b) SEARCH & RESCUE and METHOD OF INSTRUCTION COURSES are for trainees Graded A only in Advance Mountaineering
Course.
(c) Skiing Course is for trainees who have been graded A in Basic Mountaineering Course/Adventure Course.
2. ALLOTMENT OF VACANCIES: Seats are allotted on first come first serve basis. If the required course is not available, vacancy will be given
in the next available course.
3. ADMISSION TO FOREIGNERS:
To report to the Principal, one day in advance along with the Passport and valid Visa for direct admission into a course. 350 US Dollars for Adventure
Courses and 650 US Dollars each for remaining courses is to be paid as course fee.
4. PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL:
(a) Trainees should be in good physical condition prior to undertaking any course. Taking long walk on uneven tracks with load is preferable. Long
distance running and regular fingers and arms exercise will prove to be helpful.
(b) Search & Rescue course requires a high level of physical fitness.
(c) A test to qualify 15 kms. Trek with 15 17 kg load may be taken before a trainee is accepted in the Basic Mountaineering Course.
5. SUBSIDISED FEE FOR INDIAN TRAINEES
(a) Trg. Fee should be remitted through a Bank Draft, payable at State Bank of India/ Punjab National Bank Uttarkashi in favour of NIM, Uttarkashi.
PART PAYMENT, CHEQUES. MONEY ORDERS, POSTAL ORDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
(b) Fee includes expenses on food, accommodation, equipment, transportation, medicines and other training expenses during the course.
6. REFUND OF FEE:
Cancellation of seat two months earlier entitles refund of fee with 25% deduction. Once participated in the course, training fee will not be refunded or
transferred.
7. ARMED FORCES & PARA MILITARY PERSONNEL:
Serving Armed forces, Para Military and NCC personnel, should apply through their respective Service Headquarters and Departmental Channels.
They can however apply as private trainee.

8. TRANSFER OF SEAT:
Request of transfer of seat on compassionate ground may be considered only once. Further transfer or refund of course fee will not be permitted there
after.
9. REPETITION OF COURSE
The courses conducted in NIM are subsidised and the vacancies are limited. Repeating a course by an individual leads to denial of opportunity to
some one else. This Institute also conducts special courses for schools and establishments on full cost basis ie Rs 1200/- per individual per day for 15
days. These are open and anyone can apply for their confirmation
10. ARRIVAL:
Trainees must arrive an evening before commencement of course. LATE ARRIVALS EVEN BY ONE DAY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO
JOIN THE COURSE.

AMPLIFICATION NOTES
EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING REQUIRED
1. The Institute provides Mountaineering clothing and Technical equipment. In case students posses some equipment of their own,
they are welcome to bring the same with them. ALL STUDENTS (BOTH MALE AND FEMALE) MUST ENSURE THAT THEY
BRING THE FOLLOWING:
(a) Light hat for trekking - One
(b) Cap Balaclava(Woolen) - One
(c) Underwear sets - As required
(d) Light weight rain Coat, Poncho or Umbrella - One
(e) Woolen Socks of good quality (Heavy woolen) - Two pairs
(f) Torch with cells - One with spare batteries
(g) Writing material and ball point pen (Mountain note book is also available at the NIM Souvenirs Shop) - As required
(h) Toilet requisites - As required
(i) Woolen Gloves and Glove covers (water proof) - Three pairs or more
(j) Dark Goggles with side covers - One pair
(k) Water proof cover for Turbans(for those who use turbans) - As required
(l) Rubber soled trekking shoes (PVC SOLED SHOES AND CANVASSE SHOES SHOULD BE - One pair
AVOIDED)
(m) Warm shirt full sleeves and trousers - One set
(n) Heavy woolen pullover full sleeves - One
(o) Repair kit i.e. needle, thread and buttons - One set
(p) Cotton trousers - As required
(q) Cotton shirts - As required
(r) Undergarments - As per personal
requirement
(s) A good Camera with films (Strongly recommended)
(t) Trek suit - One set (Additional
Bottom)
PANCTUALITY ON THE COURSE
All trainees MUST REPORT for the course at the Institute, AN EVENING BEFORE commencement of the course. LATE ARRIVALS EVEN BY
ONE DAY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO JOIN THE COURSE. They should make their own arrangements for to and fro journey.
