Monarch Junior Varsity Team Rules and Expectations

1. Be early to practice. Start time is 3:30 P.M. This means you are dressed and arriving to
the gym by 3:15-3:20 to help set up nets. You should have shoes on and ready to step on
the court at 3:30 P.M.

2. You are late for a match and practice if you are not at the facility by the time requested
by the coach. You will receive an email with the schedule for the week on Sunday
evening. This schedule will have the times you are expected to be at the school for home
games and when the bus leaves for away games.

3. Unexcused absence- This means there was no notification of absence to the coach prior to
practice.
a. First Offense: Loss of playing time- player will sit the first set of a match
b. Second Offense: Player will sit out the entire match.
c. Third Offense: Player will be suspended from the team

4. Excused absence- Prior notification to coach for pre-arranged activities as well as illness.
This could also include academic reasons such as study sessions. After the third excused
absence playing time will be affected.
a. Fourth excused absence- Loss of playing time, player will sit the first set of a
match.
b. Fifth excused absence- Loss of playing time-player will sit an entire match
c. Sixth excused absence- Possible suspension from the team. Mandatory meeting
with player, parents, and coaches about an attendance plan.

5. I do NOT guarantee any set amount of playing time to any athlete. Playing time is based
on stats from matches, performance in practices, hard work, improvement, attitude, and
what is in the best interest of the team.

6. Conflicts- If you have an issue with playing time, practices, etc. there are three steps in
resolving the issue. Players are to talk to coaches about conflicts prior to practice or after
practice. I will not talk about conflicts with players on game days.
a. Step 1- player approaches coach and they talk about the issue and try to come to a
resolution. (90% of the time the issue will be resolved during this step)
b. Step 2- If resolution cannot be made player, coach, and parents will try to come to
a resolution.
c. Step 3- If resolution still cannot be made player, coach, parents, and Jen Dixon
will have a formal meeting about the issue.
*Parents- I am trying to teach the girls responsibility, accountability, and to be strong
independent young women. Please have your daughter bring up the issue with me before you get
involved.

7. Practice Expectations- Players are expected to wear Monarch shirts to practice every
practice, give 110% effort, have an open mind, a positive attitude, and work hard. Any
drama from the school day will be left at the door once you enter the gym.

8. No Jewelry can be worn during matches. Jewelry is to be removed and put away prior to
warmup time on game days.

9. Unsportsmanlike behavior is unacceptable and will result in loss of playing time at the
discretion of the coach.

10. You are required to watch Varsity home matches. During this time, you should be
supporting varsity, doing homework, or working the varsity game (3-ball rotation). You
should not be roaming the halls with boys or friends during the varsity game. We will
support all teams during their games.

11. If you will be taking your daughter home from an away game, please email me by 3pm
the day of the match. You many only take home your own daughter.

12. Be a good teammate. Be supportive of all your teammates. Know that you have an
important role on the team no matter if you never leave the court or if you get very
limited playing time.

13. Respect all coaches and your teammates by listening while instruction is being given.

14. Cell phones must be on vibrate and put in your bag for the duration of practice. If at any
point you need to make a call to your parent, please let me know and you will be allowed
to use your phone.

15. Negative postings about Monarch Volleyball, coaches, or teammates on public sites such
as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are inappropriate and will result on sever
consequences.

16. Drug and alcohol usage among athletes will result in severe consequences.
17. Academic Eligibility- You are STUDENT-athletes and are required to have acceptable
grades to participate in volleyball. We will receive ineligibility reports from the school
weekly.

18. Be a role model. Younger athletes are looking up to you to set the example.

19. HAVE FUN! Build relationships with your teammates and coaches to make for a great
season. Make the effort to improve both your skills and your love of the game.
