What is ISM?

ISM is a year long course that involves two semester presentations

involving the student following the guidance of a professional in a
specific field of work.

The Course requirements:

Document 3 hours of mentorship weekly and a Journal entry to
document experiences
Complete an ISM portfolio to showcase ISM related activities
Do all required assignments
Complete a mid-term presentation
At a collegiate level, develop a final presentation, project
z
Project Topic

My topic is about muscle tear and regeneration

I chose this topic because my mentor gave me inspiration as to

what to focus on as his clinic is focused on holistic care and
nutrition.

This involves our everyday activities and how our diet affects
muscle in relation to intended physical activity and the diet to
supplement it.
z
Key Topics
z
Exercise and
Activity:
z z
Exercise creates muscle strains.

Exercise is holistic in benefits for our body

Certain diseases like Anemia can inhibit

growth through exercise.

Exercise is NOT just going to the gym

Without exercise, weak muscles create more

bone on bone pressure like on the Spinal
Column.
z

Diet and Nutrition: The number 1

factor for muscle regeneration
For muscle regeneration to occur after creating micro tears
from exercise, it must be done in the kitchen.
z
Hydration is key

Low consumption of refined fats, carbs, and sugars

Balance in Caloric intake vs. Exercise/metabolism

Iron is super important for muscles as a lack of can create

tiredness and sluggish activity. This can correlate with blood
illnesses like Anemia.
z
Although diet is the best way to get energy and nutrition,
certain manufactured products like IDLife serve all natural
products that work really well in relation to other products.

Nutrition, users.rowan.edu/~mayr3/Nutrition.html.
z
Regeneration:

z z
When the muscle is strained, these cells
divide.
Then the cells fuse with
existing muscle fibers
This is what muscular regeneration is
The skeletal muscle fibers themselves,
cannot divide. (without stimulation)
However, muscle fibers can lay down
new protein and enlarge (hypertrophy).
z
Self-Diagnosis and Awareness

One thing people forget to

understand is when to stop.

People lack self-diagnosis which

leads to aggravated injuries.

People are afraid to see a doctor

when they are in pain, which can
further harm themselves
z z
Continued

This graphic displays the

functions of the nerves
throughout the spinal column

This gives important thought

to self-awareness to your
own body as there might be a
serious issue requiring
attention from a chiropractor.

Product slide

For my Product I will

be creating a
hypothetical patient
case, primarily a
mom with children in
comparison to a
man who is, which
will act as a
supplement to my
presentation

Conclusion

At the end of the semester I

learned many things such as,
owning a private practice, make
better health decisions for my
body and having that self
diagnosis and awareness of a
possible back problem. I also
hope to learn useful information
from chiropractic care in which I
could transition to orthopedics or
sports medicine.
