All in all chis curned out to be a great year for new games. So much so, 1 thought I'd devote this space this month to list ing a few of my} favorives — jst in case you missed them. Last issie 1 mentioned Wirkid’s Pirates of the Spanish Main and Hasbro's HeroScape — both games are on my list of personal favorites Buzz on these games has been pretty good, how: ever so I doubt they really need my help. Another favorite I stumbled across this year is Fantasy Flights, Rune Bound. Reminiscent of Games Workshop’ classic fantasy board game, Talisman, RB is just as fun but plays cleaner and smoother with less “okay, its not my turn, Tim bored as hell”, It’s a great warm up game and/or a nice stand-in game for those nights you want to take a break from traditional role- playing. Speaking of Fansasy Flight they've been on a roll lately. A lot of their board games have been ‘making it on to my *Must Have” list. Wings of War, a WWI Air combat card game reminds me of Avalon Hills classic, Richtofen's War. Great pick-up game that’s easy to teach to newcomers, Arena Maximus, a board game of ‘fantasy chariot racing’ is a game I've been recommend ing to friends as well. One of the best beer-and- pretzel games I've played in 2 good long while Carcassonne: The Castle (Rio Grand Games) goes on my list as well (By the way, I'd give my lucky-die to be placed on their eview lis). Rio Grand rarely puts our a game that doesnt please and the Carcassonne series is a prime example of that. The Castle is a great two-player game based on the original game of the series. And finally we come to Face to Faces board game “I’m the Boss.” This game of making and breaking deals has become a favorite and for good reason. To be sure there are a LOT of other great games out there waiting to be discovered. But these are ones I liked best among those I was fortunate to be able to play. If you see chem on the shelf at your friendly local game store be sure ro check them out.
