1. What is the topic of your lesson?

Economics and Entrepreneurship.

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?
I am teaching this lesson because I want the students to be introduced to
entrepreneurship. Also, students are required to learn and understand how and why
people become entrepreneurs.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?
My teaching behavior focus is, lessons and unit plans account for students experiences,
prior knowledge, strengths, and stages of development. I chose this focus because I want
students to use what they know about the topic and continue to build off their prior
knowledge.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did
you choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., Was the idea from a methods
course? From your mentor teacher? Another source?)
For this lesson, I was provided an outline from my mentor teacher. Based on this outline,
I modified the plan based on what my students would enjoy and take away. The main
activity of this lesson is for the students to create their own business plan. I want the
students to take this seriously and integrate economics vocabulary and methods.
5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most
challenging part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?
The most challenging part of this lesson will be for students to integrate learning and
vocabulary into their business plans. I want students to use terms like profit, risk, reward,
advertising, etc. when creating their plans.
6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met
successfully?
Students will complete the So you want to be an Entrepreneur Worksheet. For this
worksheet, students must define economics vocabulary based on what they learned,
compare risk and reward, and brainstorm their business plan. Based on the completion
of this worksheet, I will be able to gauge the students understanding of the topic.
7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?
For this unit, I have to be very organized and give clear intrsuctions so students are not
confused and engaged. During this lesson students will converse with other students
about vocabulary and terms. It is essential that I either model or set clear expectations in
order for students to stay on task. Also when students are completing the worksheet, I
need to clearly explain each part so the students know what to do.
8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention.
Why do you want your observer to focus on these areas?
- Giving clear instructions.
- Integrating what was taught into the activity.
- Guiding student discourse.
