What do you think nutrition is?
For people of the Latino culture, they consider fruits, vegetables, whole grain corn, rice, beans, and nuts as
the base of the diet.
For people of the Asian culture, rice provides a basis for most Asian diets as do other grains such as
noodles, millet, and corn.
For people of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern culture, whole grains (including barley, bulgur, faro,
rice, polenta couscous, and pastas), fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds, and legumes provide are
healthy choices.

Inspirational Artist: Giuseppe Arcimboldo

Giuseppe Arcimboldo, was born in 1527 and died 1593. Arcimboldo was a painter from
Milan, Italy. Arcimboldo, is best known for his creative head portraits. Arcimboldo used
fruits, vegetables, animals, books and other objects in his creative compositions. His
work shows the relation between nature and humans. His paintings have been the
fascinations of many art critics.

Materials Needed
Dried rice noodles Corn
Dried pasta noodles Googly eyes
Dried beans Glue
Rice Paper plates
Procedures
1. One person from each table will retrieve the beans, corn, pasta, plates, and glue
2. (Optional) Draw an outline of what your self portrait is going to look like
3. Using a variety of the food items provided make a self portrait
