INTRODUCTION

This job guide manual presents illustrated step-by-

step procedures for checkout and test of the F-5F
powerplant throttle control and engine instruments
and related systems, and removal, replacement, and
adjustment of system components as required at the
organizational level of maintenance.

The table of contents in the front of this volume is

a useful means of determining which section of the
volume contains needed procedures.

Under Personnel Required on input conditions page,

fewer personnel may be utilized than are specified
if individuals possess more than one qualification.

When a procedure within an individual section re-

quires the performance of the procedures contained
in another section of this volume, the reference
reads, See section of this T.O."

When a procedure within a section of this volume

requires the performance of a procedure contained
in another volume, the volume number will be
referenced.

When a procedure within a section of this volume

requires the performance of an equivalent supple-
mentary task which covers peculiar optional equip-
ment, the "Equivalent Supplementary Manual and
the basic volume number will be referenced.

Go directly to the table of contents within the ap-

plicable volume to determine the section number of
the needed procedure.

Switch positions, control settings, and instrument

readouts as illustrated are merely representative and
do not necessarily show the actual positions, set-
tings, or indications required by the step procedures
contained herein.

INTRODUCTION

A code system to identify that part of the job guide

manual pertaining to individual aircraft is presented
below:

Text and illustrations applicable to all aircraft

listed under Applicable Serial No on the
"Input Conditions" page are not coded.

Steps, notes, and illustrations applicable to spe-

cific aircraft are coded with a numbered tri-
angle ( A , A ) keyed to the aircraft serial
numbers listed under Applicable Serial No.

Complete text pages applicable only to specific

aircraft are identified by a note with the air-
craft number code.

Equipment Conditions:

WARNING

l Prior to accomplishing this maintenance

procedure on an armed aircraft, refer
to T.O. 1F-5F-2-12-1 for precautions to
be observed. Failure to observe this
warning may result in serious injury to
personnel or damage to the aircraft.
l When movement of any controls or
switches or the application of electrical
power and/or hydraulic pressure would
endanger personnel or equipment, a
warning placard will be placed conspic-
uously on the aircraft. (See T.O.
1F-5F-2-12-2 for recommended placard
design.)
NOTE
The following procedure will determine if
the engine instrument and start systems
are functioning properly by using a cross-
check cable assembly. The crosscheck
cable will permit interchanging left and
right engine instrument and start systems
while operating the opposite engine to
determine if aircraft components or en-
gine components are malfunctioning. If
trouble symptoms appear during this test,
refer to troubleshooting manual, T.O.
1F-5F-2-20-5, to determine defective com-
ponent or circuit.

INPUT CONDITIONS
Personnel Required: Three
Jet engine mechanic will be required to perform this
procedure.
Jet engine mechanic assistant will be required to
help test engine thermocouples and check continuity.
Qualified operator will be required to connect and
operate generator set.
Equipment Conditions:

WARNING

l Prior to accomplishing this maintenance

procedure on an armed aircraft, refer
to T.O. 1F-5F-2-12-1 for precautions to
be observed. Failure to observe this
warning may result in serious injury to
personnel or damage to the aircraft.
l When movement of any controls or
switches or the application of electrical
power and/or hydraulic pressure would
endanger personnel or equipment, a
warning placard will be placed conspic-
uously on the aircraft. (See T.O.
1F-5F-2-12-2 for recommended placard
design.)
NOTE
l Aircraft shall be parked in a protected
area. Cold wind gusts can affect tem-
perature readings. If wind is blowing,
engine inlet and tailpipe covers shall
be installed.
l The following procedure will determine
if the exhaust gas temperature system
is functioning properly. If trouble
symptoms appear during this test, refer
to troubleshooting manual, T.O. 1F-5F-
2-20-5, to determine defective compo-
nent or circuit.

to afterburner liner.

CAUTION

l The engine thermocouple harness has

four short thermocouples and four long
thermocouples. When installing heater
probes, install long heater probes onto
short thermocouples and install short
heater probes onto long thermocouples.
l Care shall be used when installing
