22. A) Compare magnetic and electric circuits.

B) Explain the Internal and External characteristics of DC series generator with

neat circuit diagram.
C) A coil of 300 turns and of resistance 10 is wound uniformly over a steel ring of
mean circumference 30 cm and cross-sectional area 9 cm2. It is connected to a
supply at 20V dc. If the relative permeability of the ring is 1500, find (i) The
magnetic force (ii)The reluctance (iii)The mmf and (iv) The flux.

23. A) Explain the Swinburnes test to predetermine the efficiency of DC motor with
neat circuit diagram.

B) A 25KW, 250V, D.C shunt generator has armature and field resistance of 0.06
and 100 respectively. Determine the total armature power developed when
working (i) as a generator delivering 25 KW output and (ii) as a motor taking
25KW input.
C) A 6 pole lap connected 230V shunt motor has 410 armature conductors. It takes
41A on full load. The flux per pole is 0.05 Wb. The armature and field resistance
are 0.1 and 230 respectively. Contact drop per brush is 1V. Determine the
speed of motor at full load.

24. A) A 230/2300V transformer takes no load current of 5A at 0.25p.f lagging.

Find (i) the core loss and (ii) magnetizing current.

B) A 15 k VA, 2200/110 V transformer has R1=1.75, R2=0.0045. The leakage

reactances are X1=2.6 and X2=0.0075. Calculate, (i) Equivalent resistance
referred to primary and secondary, (ii) Equivalent reactance referred to primary
and secondary.
C) A transformer has its maximum efficiency of 0.98 at 15KVA at unity power factor.
During the day it is loaded as follows :
12 hours : 2KW at p.f of 0.5
6 hours : 12KW at p.f of 0.8
6 hours : at no load.

C) Explain about Open-Delta connection with neat diagram and Phasor diagram.
