among multiple meanings of words.
Activity Students will use their imagination and create a
comic strip using words that have the same spelling
and pronunciation, but have different meanings
(homonyms).
The teacher will first show the students how to find
the Pixton Comic Maker in the app store. The
students will use the teachers log in information to
create their assignment. After all the students have
logged in, the teacher will demonstrate how to
create a character and their actions, expression,
word bubbles, and background. The students can
also add up to three characters.
After showing the class her comic strip, the
instructor will provide a word for each student with
two or three different meanings and the student
will produce a comic on the Pixton app.
Pedagogy
For example: The internet is flooded with news
gossip (1st strip). Hurricane Irma has flooded Puerto
Rico with heavy rains (2nd strip).

comprehension of fictional texts, narrative
nonfiction, and poetry.

The instructor will explain how to draw conclusions
that the author does not tell the class in its passage
and an educated guess about something based on
the information that is contained within the
passage. The instructor will provide helpful
questions for the students to use to complete this
assignment:
What conclusion can you draw?
We can determine that ____
What probably happened?
What might you determine?
After explaining the assignment, the teacher will
put students into groups of four to complete the
collaborative assignment over the weekend. The
group assignment will have their conclusions from
each group member and the team will help correct
and edit each others paragraph to insure its
correctly written.

The students will be using the Remind app to

comment, share information, highlight, message,
and even take notes for the assignment.
The instructor will provide the instructions on the
smartboard on how to log in the Remind app,
create a class, join, and provide the teachers class
code for the students.
