METHOD OF STATEMENT

OF
HYDRANT PIPE JOINING
1. Purpose
1.1 To establish procedure for joining underground hydrant pipe ductile iron to
schedule 40 pipe.
1.2 To provide safety working environment and work method.
1.3 To ensure all personnel reminded aware and comply to the safety aspect in the
performance of the installation of the underground pipe and support.

2. Scope : For joining works of hydrant pipe.

3. Material/ Equipment : Back Hoe, Gen Set, Power Tools.

4. Hazard Type : Fall from Height

: Hand Injury
: Physical Injury

5. Permit Application:
5.1 Prior to start of work a Permit to Work shall be applied.
5.2 A permit to work at height shall also be applied when work involves work at high
level above 3m.
5.3 The hot work permit shall be applied when there is a hot work involved in any
working area.
5.4 All permits will be accordance to M+W and submitted to M+W for approval.
5.5 Work can only start upon the approval by M+W for the above permits.
5.6 All workers involve must have Infineon and M+W safety induction before start
works.

6. Prior to Start Work Preparation:

6.1 Work can only start upon the approval of all permits submitted to the client with
the approved method of statement.
6.2 Excavation work is to be carried in very careful manner when there are other
services shown on the underground mapping.
6.3 Site inspection is a must for every installation to ensure the other trade that
around us and ensure safety for others before work is carried out.
6.4 Barricading around the area of work is the must for every installation.
7. Procedures
7.1 Safety Precautions
i. Area of work is proper barricaded before the work start.
ii. All tools and machine are inspected or tagged.
iii. Certificate for machine operator is submitted before the work started.

7.2 Pipe Cutting

i. Measures the pipe diameter (or circumference) at the location of the cut
to be made to ensure the pipe diameter and circumference are within the
tolerance to match the pipe collar joint.
ii. Mark the pipe at sufficient intervals around the circumference by
measuring from a reference (usually the spigot end) such that a square
cut can be made.
iii. Cut the pipe at the desired location.
iv. The field cuts for joint must be smooth, regular, and as square as
possible with the axis of the pipe.
v. The outside of cut end should be beveled smooth per the manufacturers
recommendations using a grinder or file to prevent damage to the gasket
during assembly.

7.3 Pipe Joining Works

i. Collar Joint Fittings are used to join the hydrant pipe.
ii. The pipes are push into the collar joint while suitable rubber gasket are
apply on to it such that no any leakages.
iii. The collar joints are then tighten up with long screws such that the
rubber gasket in the collar joint will expand and fill up the space between
the joint and the pipe.
iv. The expansion of the rubber will ensure no leakages of water from the
joint.
v. On the other side, the flange on the collar joint also screw to the flange
on the pipes. This will enhance the holding power at that particular joint
between the collar joint and hydrant pipes.
vi. Each pipe joint position to be firmly secured with two numbers of 8 feet
cube Concrete Anchor Block at both ends.
vii. The body of pipes is then locked with brackets onto the concrete blocks.
viii. Refill the area of excavation with quarry dust prior to earthwork and
compacted to ensure no movement of piping position when charging
water.
ix. Make good with earthwork once the piping joint is successfully completed.

Note:

For joining of pipes of larger diameters. Easy to line up, good hydraulic properties, no
special end preparation required, suitable for permanent installation. However, lateral
and longitudinal movement must be restricted by having good Anchor Concrete Block
supporting and properly hold firmly to the pipe
