Instructions: To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, Student Teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of their First,
Second and Third Field Experience with input from their Co-operating Teacher and/or Field Supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each Field
Experiences evaluation, links each Field Experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement and forms an agenda for discussion between
the Student Teacher, Co-operating Teacher and Field Supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent Field Experience. For Field Experience 1 only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown Thorough to Advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed during this Field Experience:
I believe to have shown development and improvement within all 12 Competencies. This Field Experience was definitely a positive one and I learned
many strategies from my cooperating teacher and the school staff. I worked closely with a very caring group of individual's and was given the opportunity
to really grow as a future educator. I learned about a great deal of resources and the importance of creating a relationship with other cohorts and parents/
guardians. I worked to intergrate technology into a number of lessons I taught and learned more about adapting lessons to each students individual
needs. In previous placements, I did not get to look into the Individual Education Plans and found that to be extremely interesting. I went through my
students and learned more about each of their unique strengths and weaknesses. I found to have shown the highest advancement in Competency 1, 6
and 8. When observing my CT and beginning to take part in teaching lessons, I quickly learned of what material could be taught next depending on the
knowledge and interest of the students in my class at the time. We moved from What it means to be a Canadian kid, read a novel and began the study of
another culture and religion. I found the use of comparison to be a very effective technique. Students can relate to the material when you compare to their
culture/everyday lives, this makes it interesting and relevant. This can easily lead to another topic that can be incorporated and adjusted to fit the
curriculum. Competency 1 also affects Competency 6 and 8. Students will be more likely to take part in the classroom community and behave in a
positive manner if they can use technology to enhance learning, feeling respected and accepted in their environment.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this Field Experience:
I believe that Competency 5 is one that should be continuously worked on. I began learning about evaluation and the various types that can be used when
assessing students this semester. I experimented with creating rubrics, checklists, providing feedback and final quiz's to complete units. I observed the
importance of giving students feedback quickly and in an organized manner. It can be easy for children to forget what they've done and learnt if they are
not being provided with feedback on how to improve or on what has been done correctly. I was able to attend parent-teacher interviews and also observed
how all student work should be kept and ready to show if an explanation is needed. I would like to continue to develop this ability to stay on track of what
students have completed and encourage them to succeed in the learning of material. I will continue to learn about giving helpful input during the lessons/
units and not only using tests to assess what children have learned. !
!
This Competency also affects the way a teacher adapts their lessons depending on the children in their class. I observed that not all students can be
assessed in the same way. Some students with I.E.P.'s have the opportunity to have test's read aloud to them and can be given more time. I, therefore,
would like to continue learning about the ways to which I can play a role in giving each student the right to learn. This can be done in several ways and I
would like to work on implementing strategies and adapting my lesson plans. !
!

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

One strategy that could help with my improvement of this Competency would be to do more research and build my resources. I will continue to ask more
experienced teachers if they have any techniques and I will look for more textbooks/online readings to help with my development. There are many
scholars and educators who have shared their knowledge on evaluation and it will now be my responsibility to further my research and reading of this
material. I would also like to begin creating a set of learning expectations for my own classroom. This list will be introduced in the first few days of the
school year and, both teacher and students, will be held accountable. If I plan this before getting a position in a school, it will not only help me be a more
organized teacher, but it will also show my students that learning will be a vital part of our lives. Other forms of assessment that I could include are artistic
creations, chart/graph, photo essay, learning about maps, charades, audio-recorded report. !
!
Strategies that will help with the development of adapting lessons for individual students:!
- Provide scrips to lessons I am teaching or films/videos being watched.!
- Teach mental activities involved in listening: mental note-taking, questioning, reviewing. !
- Use flash cards!
- Give explanations in small, concise steps!
- Provide both oral and written instructions. !

The Action Plan is to be discussed with your Field Supervisor and Co-operating Teacher at the start of the subsequent Field Experience.
