My Career Choice

If I could choose any job I wanted it would be a Sociologist. Sociologists jobs are to

study human society and interaction behavior. Sociologists study social, religious, political, and

business organizations; and/or groups. More specifically, they study how these groups interact

with each other and other groups and analyze the effect of groups actions on certain or all

members.

Being a Sociologist is like most other jobs, you usually work the same hours every day, at

daytime hours. The key difference is the time in which you need to do research. Being a

sociologist means having a schedule to conduct interviews, study participants, or study groups as

a whole. The time in which a sociologist would to this is based on what the individual or group

can fit in. As seen by the image below, sociologist jobs are not widely available in all states.

Most sociology jobs are on the west and east sides of the United States. States that are white, or

states near the center of the United States, do not have many job opportunities available. This

work is usually done indoors. Most groups studied are social, religious, political, and economic

groups, organizations, and institutions. A majority of these groups are usually held inside, this
means that when studying individuals or groups, the majority of observation is done inside. The

best sociologist jobs are in NC due to the demand of these jobs.

Most sociologist jobs require a doctoral degree, around 77%. A few amount of jobs

require a masters degree, only 23%. On Average students take about four to seven years to

finish the Ph.D. program. Students spend on average 10 to 15 years to achieve their masters

degree after first entering college. To earn a Bachelor's degree most people will take 5 to 7 years

in college and graduate school to get their degree (college.usatoday.com). California-santa

Barbara is the best college to go to, for those looking to be employed in sociology. The sociology

program at Santa Barbara is considered one of the best in the country. The second best college

would be, The University Of California-Berkeley (college.usatoday.com).

One of the biggest benefits of being a sociologist is having the opportunity to solve social

problems. Sociologists help by convincing others through their ideas and/or solutions.

Based on many sociologists I have seen online they say one of the biggest issues of being

a sociologist is having bad recruits. Before studying social environments, sociologists must first

pick a person or group to study. If the wrong choice is picked, their will likely be inaccurate

results.

The Sociology career is looking stable in the future in terms of job demand. The job

demand goes down, but only by tiny bit, a total of 1%. Those who want this career will go
through very strong competition for the position. Sociology is a popular career with a small

number of positions.

Around 48,660 people work as photographers as a professional job/career. The median

hourly wage for a photographer is about $20.50 an hour. The median annual range is about

$34,070 a year. Those who live in The District of Columbia get the best median wage to work as

a photographer, totaling $63,750. Photographers who live in Missouri received the worst wage,

totaling only a median wage of $20,550.

The hourly rate of this job is on average $38.34 hourly. The wage in most jobs stay the

same. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $44,000. While the top 10 percent earned more

than $129,870. Education makes a slight difference in salary. Those who have a masters degree,

on average, earn 1.4 times the amount of those working with an associate's degree.

Sociology is a great job to take part in. The wage is above median for the average

working male and female. It is also a great job when it comes to helping others with their needs

and/or problems.
