Sexual Assault in Military PSA

The PSA that I created is on the topic of sexual assault in the military. The purpose of the

PSA is to grab the viewer's attention with pictures and statistics. The viewer of the PSA is most

likely someone who cares about this problem in our military and to convince them that sexual

assault in the military is growing problem. The element of the PSA that attracts the readers the

most are the pictures of soldiers because they show that the prevention of the crime must be

handled accordingly.

The mood or tone that this PSA gives is serious. The pictures show soldiers with serious

faces that exemplify the problem at hand. Another part of the PSA that represents seriousness is

the black and white lettering. It is related to the article "Sexual Assault in the Military: Should

civilian investigators handle allegations of sexual assault in the military?" because it tackles the

same issues and social concerns. One of the social concern of the topic is that this is happening

in the armed forces where the soldiers are supposed to treat each other like brothers and sisters.

The PSA represents this concern with the picture where a female soldier holds up a sign that says

He thought I was weak; Im stronger than that.

The caption of the PSA is very persuasive. The first part of it is a shocking statistic that is

supposed to open the eyes of the viewer and inform them about the problem. The second part

persuades the reader to help take action to fight this problem. The PSA has examples of ethos,

pathos, and logos. The non profit organization in the bottom left corner is an example of ethos.

An example of pathos is the pictures that have emotional sway over the viewer. The logos

example is the statistic. These examples help the PSA become more effective to the viewer.
 The greatest challenge I faced when I was creating my PSA was when I was trying to

create a caption. It was hard to write something that would make the viewer sympathise with the

victims on the PSA. I changed the caption from sexual assault should be stopped to what it is

now. The strongest part of the PSA are the pictures because they show the victims of the sexual

assault.
