Introduction of case

After analysis the case study we came to know that both Mark and Amy is the employee of

marketing job. Mark has been assigned to guide Amy because she has joined the company about

six month ago but Mark has been worked almost two years in this company. Both Mark and

Amy have the same degree in business study, even though there are two years differences in a

working age between Mark and Amy. After some month when Amy told Mark that she as was

having a few hundred Ringgits more than Mark then their working relationship took a drastic

change.

Q .No. 1

Attitude is something that reflects how we feel about something. Attitude can be either favorable

or unfavorable about objects, people, or events. For examples when I say I like my job, that

means I am expressing my attitude about my work.

In another words attitude can be described as a tendency to react positively or negatively to a

person or circumstances. So in overall we defined attitude as evaluation of an objects that is

based on cognitive, affective and behavioral information.

Affective component: Affective components can be explained as the every persons

involves feelings, emotions about the attitude objects. For examples: I am scared of

ghosts.

Behavioral (or conative) component: Basically behavioral components can be explained

as the way the attitude we have influences how we act or behave. For examples: I will

avoid ghosts and scream if I see one.

2

Cognitive: The persons who belief / knowledge about an attitude object. For example:

I believe ghosts are dangerous. (McLeod, 2014)

According to the case study we came to know that the attitude of Mark has been changed

because both Mark and Amy is the employee of marketing job. Where both have the same

degree but there is the difference between working age. Mark has been working since two years

where Amy she has joined the company about a six months ago. Both have the good working

relationship, communicating and supporting each other on the projects assigned them before

when there is no differentiated pay level employee doing the same job. If I were Amy I would

definitely told my marketing executive that he should explained all the employee performances,

skill, behavioral, hard work, educational background, before paying me few hundred Ringgits

more than other employees doing the same job.

Experiences and skill:

It is said that the longer you do a job, the more productive you become. As a result, both

experienced and a skill worker usually earns more.

But analyzing the case study we came to know that only the experiences worker in not enough

to be more productive. Similarly in case Mark have more working experiences than Amy but the

company decide to pay more salary to Amy because of skill does Amy have. Amy have unique

skill and ability to do job tan Mark which lead to company growth rapidly , earns profit, increase

in volume of sale, innovation and the quality product.

Industry or employee: Amy has the ability to work in diverse working condition,

clientele and training. Without knowing the inner core of Amy performance Mark

attitude has change because Mark thought that Amy has just joined the company six

month ago so why she should get more salary then me but the reason behind the
3

increasement in salary of Amy than Mark is that Amy have the professional certificated

and she can work in any different company in a team and have the unique ability of doing

the job than Mark.

Job tasks: Both Mark and Amy have the same job responsibility but individual tasks may

vary and the jobs involving more complex tasks or greater responsibility have the better

opportunity to get the promotion in the company. Even though both Mark and Amy have

same job but the Amy have more ability to complete the specific job in time, have more

motivation about the job, towards the responsibility then Mark. (Torpey, 2015)

Since mark have been working in this company from two years than Amy. When mark heard that

Amy is getting few hundred Ringgits more than him then the working performance of mark will

decrease than before because both mark and Amy have same degree but there is working age

difference then Mark and Amy. Even though Mark has more working experiences and same

degree then Amy but the company decided to increase the salary of Amy rather than Mark. This

decision makes outcome of Mark is less productive and the working performance of mark will

decrease than before. Because of Mark behavioral and the attitude towards the company the

performance level of Mark which affects the organizational performance which gives the result

that decrease the company growth, profits, innovation, sales volume and quality of the company

that produce before will be decreased which leads the company towards bad impact in further

establishment of the company. We know that Performance = Ability x Motivation if the

performance level is decreased then the ability and the motivation factor also decrease in

employee.

Emotional factors
4

Emotions are reciprocal with mood, temperature, personality, dispositions, and motivation. They

can affect a persons physical well-being judgment and perception.

In other words emotions play a critical role in how individuals behave and react to external

stimuli; they are often internalized enough for people to fail to notice when they are at work.

(How Emotion and Mood Influence Behavior - Boundless)

In the case study Mark is disappointed on the decision making of the company towards Amy.

The emotions that Mark show in organization is that if Mark is not satisfied at work, and the

decision made by the company that condition may reduce levels of stress and help influence

motivation and disposition but the situation is not good in the company because of the decision

made on Amy.

Decrease in motivation

Motivational problems can lead to performance issues that cost a business thousands of dollars in

losses each year. A lack of motivation can lead to delays in the employee's completion of work

and simple but expensive mistakes. Unfortunately, several issues may sap an employees

motivation and leave him unproductive and a minor contributor to the bottom line.

Low self- confidence:

Confidence enhances an employees motivation; he believes that he can perform the

tasks necessary to achieve his goals. Confidence contributes to his willingness to

persevere and complete tasks

In this case study , After Mark overhead the Amy mention about her salary to Mary, the self

confidence has been decreased because Amy has just joined the company six month ago where
5

Mark has been working this company at least two years. By knowing the working age difference

company decided to decrease the salary of Amy rather than Mark which makes the Mark low

self- confidence. Due to the Mark Lacking self-confidence, Mark is unable to form good work

relationships or assert himself, both of which are important if the Mark is to be successful in the

workplace.

Low Expectations for Success:

Low expectations ensure the employee will remain unmotivated and will not perform as well as

the employer expects. In addition, an employer who has low expectations in regards to an

employee is less likely to provide the tools and equipment necessary for the employee to

accomplish a work task, further diminishing the employee's motivation.

So as comparing to the above definition after Mark overheard the decision of the company he

gets fursted of doing work and has low expectations for success. Mark think that he is more

experiences than Amy and do all the work more effectively, more productivity, more confident

and willingness to accept future challenging assignments. But everything gets wrong so Mark he

have less interest on subject matter he have doing right now in the company which leads the

company towards loss. (Nordmeye)

Money as a primary factor:

Money as a prime factor because money is the important motivator, to the employee and the

good element of management. Money is a motivator to only go above and beyond, but maintain

an increased level of productivity.

6

Effectiveness:

Money can be used to motivate employee across a broad spectrum of industries.

According to this case study money is given more priority because to build up the

working performance, ability to do work more effective and efficient.

Broad option:

Another advantage of using money to motivate employees is that a company has broad option in

terms of the way to use the employee in right ways, motivate to do work more, build up the

ability to do work.

In the case study that the company decide to increase the salary of Amy because company have

the bigger aim to get the better goals by the Amy performance towards company.

Q .No.2

Above case study clearly mention that there is an issue of differentiated pay level of employee

doing the same job. In this case study, the marketing executive Joshua decided to increase the

salary of Amy rather than Mark. After Mark overheard what Amy mentioned about her salary to

Mary, the attitude, behavioral, personality and the working behavioral of the Mark drastically got

changed. The change of Mark on his attitude, personality and working behavioral is common

before knowing any reason behind why the company decide to pay few hundred Ringgit more to

Amy not Mark. Every employee does the same thing in the Place of Mark.
7

If I were Mark definitely I will try to find out the strong reason behind increasement of salary of

Amy and directly concern with the marketing executive and tell him to show all the reports of

my and Amy and try to compare the working reports, performance, company record on Amy

and myself, ability of doing job, who is more productive between both of us, accepting the all

challenges. If all the reports of Amy is far better than myself then I will figure out all my

weakness and compare with Amy where I cannot give my more focus on that particular area

which makes me more less productivity. After all I will do my SWOT analysis and try to find out

my strength, weakness, opportunity, threat and works hard to get a level of Amy.

Here comes the word job satisfaction, after find out all the reason behind the company decision

that Amy is getting few hundred Ringgit more than me. I would accept the company decision

any I will satisfy with my job and the position where I am right now.

Job satisfaction:

A positive feeling about a job resulting from an evaluation and taking the job as a simple ways,

easy way and the ability to complete required tasks, level of communication in an organization,

and the way of management treats employees is knows as job satisfaction.

As the above definition I am satisfy with my job and show the positive attitude towards my

company because I learned as lesson from Amy that only the two years working experiences is

not enough to be a good leader or to be a good productive person for the company to earn the

profit. Several list where mention to show a positive attitude in a work place.

Career success: After knowing the lesson to be a successful candidate and productive

candidate, career success is the most important. Employee with a positive attitude will

always think of ways to accomplishing their task in well defined manner instead of

complaining or finding excuses for non performance. This results in success through
8

promotion or increases compensation. So I will show the positive attitude towards my

company and with my team members.

Productivity: Comparing with Amy I find out that I am less productive because without

a positive attitude, employees do not have any more interest in what they do and deliver.

Consequently they produce lesser quality work with maximum errors. So due to my own

attitude I could not be more productive towards company. Now I believed that positive

attitude is most important in working place.

Leadership ; Though I have the two years working experiences that Amy, the leading

capacity that I have is lesser than Amy. Leadership is that working in an organization is

all about managing a diverse workforce.

Motivation: Now I know that motivation is also the another tools which helps to build up

the positive attitude and helps to overcome obstacles that which face during the course of

job time. (Nag, 2012)

Above mentioning attitude points which helps me to be more productive, more ability to

perform and increase the level of doing job and makes me more responsible towards my duties.

Q. NO.3

This case is all about the relation between the employees in the organization. As we know

organizational behavior is the study of the behavior of the employees in the organization.

Looking at the case, there are two employees Mark and Amy working on the same level as

marketing executive and are reporting their work to Joshua. Marketing executive is the senior in

the marketing department who has the job responsibility of handling the entire task that is carried
9

out on the concerned department. All the work that helps the organization to grow their business

through the means of other channels and linkups, marketing department assists the other

department to get their jobs from those channels. And as this job is that curial, both Mark and

Amy have a big responsibility of task to carry out. As both of them were working on the same

field as an executive, they both worked on the same level and on the same matter Amy was

getting few hundred Ringgits more than Mark did. As Mark worked on the same organization for

about 2 years and Amy was for just 6 months being guided by Mark, when Amy got more ringgit

than Mark did there was a big misunderstanding between Mark and Amy.

We know marketing is one big job that almost helps to increase the revenue of the hotel and also

helps the other department of the organization to make their work easy. Working on the same

field, Mark was senior than Amy on the same post. As Amy was guided by Mark for six months,

Amy also got the same job as Mark did. Talking about the age, there was only about two years of

difference where Mark was senior. They also studied the same course and had the same degree in

business study. They were so many similarities between them on every aspect which helped

them to communicate well on their work and they also supported each other very well on every

projects assigned to them. They were working so great and were very friendly with each other,

supported each other, communicate well, help each others work and most of all they could

understand each other very well.

One day Amy was making coffee with Mary (of procurement department) on the pantry where

she shared about her salary to her. This was the case where Mark overheard the salary of Amy

was few ringgit more than of his. As Mark was working on the organization much earlier than

Amy did and also Mark guided Amy on the work and being all that when he heard Amy's salary

was more than his, he got demotivated and his relation with Amy was drastically changed.
10

Having such a good relation and working as a team, just due to the money factor their relation

was changed in the wrong way.

Here on this case, it clearly talks about the attitude problem between Mark and Amy due to the

money factor. Because of this the performance level of Mark will definitely decrease, as Mark is

demotivated from his work. Being a marketing executive we know how tuff and tactfulness is

required on the job and due to that inequality in the salary, Mark is suffering with the negative

impact with the decision of the organization. Mark is so dissatisfied with such discrimination on

his salary, he is emotionally affected and due to this the work in the organization will also get

affected. Not only the job but his attitude towards Amy has also changed due to such condition.

From the study of OB we have understood that Mark showing such attitude with Amy is

unreasonable. Instead of showing his attitude with Amy, Mark should have directly talked to

Joshua about such discrimination. Showing such attitude towards Amy does not make any sense,

and it is very unprofessional to do so. There might be case that his salary was also about to

increase, just Amy was given the information as she was recently confirmed. We know that

Mark was on the organization about one and half years before Amy did and the organization will

also make a fair decision on him as he is the one to whom the organization will give much

priority then to the newly joined. By knowing a small detail, one should not decide immediately

but should have the knowledge of collecting all the information then deciding and reacting on the

situation.
