ADHD:

Im going to speack about ADHD.

Question: Do you Know what ADHd is?

ADHD is a neuro-behavioral condition, some reseachs says that is highly genetic and that is a brain-based
syndrome which affects to brain operation referred to as executive functioning skills and include
important functions such as attention, concentration, memory, motivation and effort, learning from
mistakes, impulsivity, hyperactivity, organization, and social skills. There are various contributing
factors that play a role in these challenges including chemical and structural differences in the brain as
well as genetics.

QUESTION: DO YOU KNOW WHAT type of population is AFFECTED by ADHD?

It affects adults and chidren. Approximately two-thirds or more of children with ADHD continue to have
symptoms and challenges in adulthood that require treatment.

ADHD occurs in both men and women.

While initially research was focused on studying hyperactive, school-aged boys, we now know that
women also have ADHD. Some researchers have suggested that ADHD more prevalent in men. ADHD
in women are consistently under-diagnosed under-treated compared to men.

QUESTION: DO YOU KNOW THE TYPES OF ADHD?

There are different subtypes of ADHD (inattentive, hyperactive, and combined type), and every person
has a unique brain profile.

QUESTION: Do you know the criteria to diagnosis Of ADHD?

The diagnosis requires the following criteria:

1. Inattention:
Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, at work,
or with other activities.
Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.
Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties
in the workplace (e.g., loses focus, side-tracked).
Often has trouble organizing tasks and activities.
Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to do tasks that require mental effort over a long period
of time (such as schoolwork or homework).
Often loses things necessary for tasks and activities (e.g. school materials, pencils, books,
tools, wallets, keys, paperwork, eyeglasses, mobile telephones).
Is often easily distracted
Is often forgetful in daily activities.
2. Hyperactivity and Impulsivity: disruptive and inappropriate for the persons developmental
level.
Often leaves seat in situations when remaining seated is expected.
Often runs about or climbs in situations where it is not appropriate (adolescents or adults may
be limited to feeling restless).
Often unable to play or take part in leisure activities quietly.
Is often "on the go" acting as if "driven by a motor".
Often talks excessively.
Often blurts out an answer before a question has been completed.
Often has trouble waiting his/her turn.
Often interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g., butts into conversations or games)
In addition, the following conditions must be met:
Several inattentive or hyperactive-impulsive symptoms were present before age 12 years.

Several symptoms are present in two or more settings, (e.g., at home, school or work; with friends
or relatives; in other activities).

There is clear evidence that the symptoms interfere with, or reduce the quality of, social, school, or
work functioning.

The symptoms are not better explained by another mental disorder (e.g. Mood Disorder, Anxiety
Disorder, Dissociative Disorder, or a Personality Disorder).

The ADHD Diagnosis is further broken down into one of three subtypes:
Combined Presentation: symptoms of both criteria inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity were
present for the past 6 months;
Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: predominant symptoms of inattention, but not hyperactivity-
impulsivity.
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: predominant symptoms of hyperactivity-
impulsivity but not inattention were present for the past six months.

QUESTION : DO YOU KNOW What Causes ADHD?

Researches used belive ADHD is NOT caused by: poor parenting, falls or head injuries, traumatic life
events, digital distractions, video games and television, lack of physical activity, food additives, food
allergies, or excess sugar.
ADHD IS caused by chemical, structural, and connectivity differences in the brain, mostly as a result of
genetics-they say- The studies found that adults with ADHD had brain scans showing significantly
reduced activity throughout the brain, especially within two areas of the brain responsible for motor
activity and attention capacity (the premotor cortex and prefrontal cortex), that there is a poor
connectivity between different parts of the brain and that dopamine transport genes are hereditable.

However based on my experience, I cant say that it is not true, but I could realize that social and family
habits are very important causes.

QUESTION: DO YOU KNOW SOMETHIN ABOUT THE TREATMENT?

Medication serves to manage brain based functions and symptoms and therapy addresses daily thoughts,
behaviors, and coping strategies and is often used to help normalize brain activity and must be carefully
prescribed and monitored by a physician, preferably a psychiatrist and not a primary care physician.

However, a friend of me tell me that medication is no good because children would be in the future more
dependent to another drugs such as cocaine and alcohol drinks.

Then I would prefer another options:

-Behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based practices becasue focus on identifying internal and external
barriers to adaptive coping behaviors and working towards developing new, workable actions and skills in
the present moment due to most people have feelings of shcame, guilt.

-Coaching is good to improve organizational skills, time management and productivity.

QUESTION: HOWEVER THERE IS ANOTHER WAY. DO YOU KNOW THE HERBS AND
SUPLLEMENTS FOR ADHD?
Some studies suggest that certain nutritional supplements can ease symptoms of Attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder(ADHD):

Zinc: is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in brain health.

A zinc deficiency may have an effect on other nutrients that help the brain function. Zinc-rich foods
include: oysters, red meat, beans, whole grains, cereals.

Omega-33 acids: People with ADHD typically have lower levels of DHA(docosahexaenoic acid which
can affect how serotonin and dopamine move around in the frontal cortex of your brain. Dietary source
includes fish such as salmon, tuna.

Iron: the iron deficiency may increase risk of mental health disorders in children and adults. Iron is
important to dopamine. This neurotransmitter help regulate the brains system.

Magnesium: A deficiency can cause irritability, mental confusion however at high dodses can be toxic
and cause nausea, diarrhea.

Melatonin: Slepp problems can be an effect of ADHD, it can help to regulate sleep.

QUESTION: What do you think about herbal treatment?

In my opinion I think that are best than traditional treatment because they are natural.

For instance:

Korea ginseng: reduce hyperactive behavior, valerian root decrease the lack of concentration,
hyperactivity and impulsiveness and increases social behavior and sleep.

IN my opinion I consider that the most effective treatment for ADHD is a combination of
medication and therapy.

QUESTION: Do you know how teacher should be to help ADHD students at school?

Personally , I consider that the number of cases are increasing continuously in the school. The last year I
was a tutorial in a group of ADHD students. They always forgot the books, pencils at home, the always
forgot to do homework, they couldnt be quiet and speak a lot.
Then I consider that the best option to obtain the best goals not only in marks but also in behavior, was to
speak a lot and have a great deal of communication with fathers to work together.

I decided to give each of them a diary, it was able to have a good communication with parents in order to
they know the homework, the problems with behavior at class, the exams days

On the other hand, we needed to change the methodology at class, they need take a little breaks about 5
minutes due to the less the attention quickly, you need to pay attention them continuously to avoid the
distractions mind or to explain the lesson by another way with examples..

Moreover you need control their impulsivity controlling them a lot of time and avoiding that they speak
with other students in order to they pay attention in class.

At the same time, teachers need to encourage some of them and mentalize them that they are very good
students because some of them have a low self-steem.

QUESTION: AND WHAT ABOUT THE EXAMS? DO YOU KNOW THE RULES OF EXAMS?

The disposition is very important. You need to combine photos with texts because they can find very
stressed and burn out with only text exams.

You need to have enough space between questions in order to dont forget answer some questions.

You need to check that they understand all questions, and give them some examples or explain the
question by another way. At the same time you need to check that the student pay attention and isnt
distracted by another thinking.

Finally, If they need you should give them more time to finish the exam.

Without any doubt the need stay in a small group to control, to work well and in order to carry out an
individual study and help.
