Introduction

Air and sound pollution is a growing issue these days. Air pollution and noise
pollution often go hand-in-hand, as some of the most heavily air-polluted areas are
also those near loud busy roadways and airports. Air pollution is due to toxic or
radioactive gases that introduced into the atmosphere as a result of human activity.
Dirty air that could injure human health or property, and nature. There are many
factor that effect the quality of air such as waste from factories, combustion from
automobile and from nature causes such as volcano eruption. Air pollution can effects
to all living things in many ways with both short-term or long-term.

Noise pollution is when there is lot sound that is unwanted or disrupt ones
quality of life. Sound becomes undesirable when it disturb our daily activities such as
sleeping, working or during conversations. There are lot sources of noise pollution
such as from industrial, construction work, road traffic and many more. Unlike air
pollution, noise is an underrated environmental problem because the fact that we
cannot see, smell or taste it. The effect of noise or sound pollution is not just
disturbing, it also can effect human health such as interfering human hearing. For
example, auditory fatigue and deafness. Sound pollution also can effect physiological
psychological health such as high blood pressure, stress related illness and sleep
disruption.

IOT or internet of things is an upcoming technology that makes use of internet to

control/monitor electronic/mechanical devices, automobiles and other physical
devices connected to the internet. IOT gives user the ability to control more than
digital things easily through a comfortable GUI over the internet.

There are some advantage and disadvantages of IoT. The first advantage is
Automation and Control. Due to physical objects getting connected and controlled
digitally and centrally with wireless infrastructure, there is a large amount of
automation and control in the workings. Without human intervention, the machines
are able to communicate with each other leading to faster and timely output. The
second most obvious advantage of IoT is monitoring. Knowing the exact quantity of
supplies or the air quality in your home, hospital or noise quantity on your town can
further provide more information that could not have previously been collected easily.
Furthermore, monitoring the expiration of products can and will improve safety.

There are disadvantages of IoT such as in privacy and security. With all of this
IoT data being transmitted, the risk of losing privacy increases. For instance, how well
encrypted will the data be kept and transmitted with? Do you want your neighbors or
employers to know what medications that you are taking or your financial situation?

For IoT project, we propose an air quality and sound pollution monitoring system
that allows us to monitor and check air quality as well as sound pollution in a
particular areas through IoT. The system uses gas sensors to sense presence of
harmful gases or compounds in the air and constantly transmit this data to
microcontroller. The system also keeps measuring sound level and reports it to the
online server over IoT. The sensors interact with microcontroller which processes this
data and transmits it over internet. This allows authorities to monitor air pollution in
different areas and take action against it. Authorities also can keep a watch on the
noise pollution near schools, hospitals and no honking areas, and if system detects air
quality and noise issues it alerts authorities so they can take measures to control the
issue.

Software specification

1. Arduino Compiler - The Arduino Integrated Development Environment or

Arduino Software (IDE) contains a text editor for writing code, a message area, a
text console, a toolbar with buttons for common functions and a series of menus.
It connects to the Arduino and Genuino hardware to upload programs and
communicate with them.

2. Microcontroller Programming Language: C++ - C++ was used as a

programming language for Arduino to program the microcontroller to run a task.
