Mentor Introduction
My mentor is a professional photographer named Rhonda Floyd, she started out where it was just her
doing everything, like kids, pets, families, and just small portraits. About 5 years ago she moved into her
studio and hired help and they have been there ever since, now she takes most of the high schools schools
pictures and senior pictures. Her career of study was a bachelor of science in Early Childhood Education but
she started teaching to kindergarten and to first graders for 9 years but after 9 years she wanted to control
her schedule and her income, she has always loved photography she has had a camera since she was little
so she just opened her own business and made a career out of it.

What ISM Is? And Course Requirements

Ism is independent study mentorship. Its a class where you pick a mentor to
follow around and learn about what they do and how they do it. The course
requirements is to have a mentor picked out, and every week have 3 hours
with your mentor, and also have two activity hours. And making a final
presentation powerpoint showing our progress with are mentor.
What My Project Topic Is? And Why I
Chose It?
My project topic is about photography, and how to
properly operate a camera. I chose this topic because i
have been doing photography for years now and its how i
express myself to the world and show people the real me.
What I Have Done!
The meaning of ISO and how it is used?

ISO is how sensitive your camera is to light.

most photographers want more light for good exposure.
Higher ISO # will allow you to shoot better in low quality light conditions. Lower ISO # the more light
is required for good exposure and less noise in the photographs.
How Shutter Speed works?

Shutter speed is how sharp your picture will turn out. Lower shutter speed more light, faster shutter speed
less light.
What is Aperture?

To have good lighting you want your aperture known as f-stop to be at lowest, and less light have your f-
stop as open as it can be.
How to check White Balance?

White balance is the aspect of photography that many digital camera owners dont understand or use- but
its something well worth learning about about as it can have real impact upon the shots you take. Different
digital cameras have different ways of adjusting for each camera.

The History of Photography: October 16th, 2017
This article is about what the cameras were used for before photography was thought of. Photography
is less than 200 years old. But in history it has evolved from crude chemicals and cumbersome
cameras of creating and sharing images instantly. The very first camera was not made to create
images, it was made to study optics. The first guy who invented a camera, wasnt made for actual
photography. The camera was made for testing out the lighting can be used to project an image onto a
flat surface. Around the 1600s is when lenses were first made and people started to use them for
drawing and painting. A magic lantern was created to also help project images. The first scientists who
created photo-sensitivity chemicals in 1727.
My connection to this article is strong because I have been experiencing photography for years now,
and still to this day I am still learning new stuff. Learning about the very first camera wasnt made for
actual photography which I was felling confused at first but then I got more into it and I understand that
the first camera made for pictures, just not ones you can take, the first cameras were not used for
creating images, it was used to study optics.
Research 1: Settings on a camera?

Whichever camera you use the pictures will come out perfect if you adjust the settings.
When choosing a camera its just not about the resolution, dynamic, range, or other objective
metrics of image quality its about how to achieve a specific effect or creating a vision
Most cameras have each buttons and settings are located in the same spot.
The top of the camera has the top 7 most commonly used controls which is the power switch,
shutter release button, exposure compensation-aperture, mode dial- which has the controls on it,
live switch mode, command dial.
On the side of the camera the buttons dont get used as much.
The lens and side of the camera has a7 buttons. Flash button, function button, zoom,focus ring, lens
retract and release button and drive mode button.
The back of the camera has 14 buttons, these are the buttons that most people use.
Research 2: shooting in manual mode!!

If you want to get the most out of a camera shoot in manual mode.
Shooting in manual mode you have full control, no surprises.
Once mastered shooting in manual try and to shoot with three major points of the exposure triangle;
aperture, shutter speed and iso.
You have many great opportunities to get good pictures like bokeh-means to have a blurred
background, and the object in focus.
You avoid unexpected flash. You can have silhouettes, which are very nice pictures,
It takes a little longer to prepare for a picture.
How to shoot in manual mode steps. Check the exposure of your shot with the light meter visible
through your viewfinder. Pick an aperture. Adjust the shutter speed. Pick an ISO setting. If the light
meter ticker is lined up with 0 you have a properly exposed picture. Take the Shot. (Beach Team)

Research 3: Techniques for a perfect
photo!!
When doing a photoshoot you want to pose the people like models. There are 7 ways to do that.
1. Pose the hair-first thing to remember with long hair make sure its behind the shoulders, in front of
shoulders, all on one side of the shoulders, on the other side or put it up.
2. Next one you want to pull the chin or ears forward.
3. You want to have people lift their arm so they look less awkward and make them more
comfortable. You can correct that by having them lift their arm by an inch or two. You can also
position their arm differently.
4.make sure to leave visual space by the waist.
5. Have them turn their shoulders towards you.
6. Dont show the whites in the eyes avoid this so there eyes look good.
7. Dont let the nose break the face, this means dont let the nose take up all the face, try to turning
them if the nose takes up the whole picture.

Bokeh- the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image.
Depth of Field- focus range, is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that
appear sharp in an image.
Light Meter- a device used to measure the intensity of light when taking a photograph.
Exposure-the amount of light per unit area.
Aperture- is a space through which light passes in an optical or photographic instrument, especially the
variable opening by which light enters a camera.
ISO- measures the sensitivity of the image sensor.
Manual mode- allows the photographer to set the exposure instead of having the camera do it
automatically.
Rule of Thirds- is a technique designed to help photographers build drama and interest in a piece.
White Balance- the color balance on a digital camera.

This is how my mentor enters students into the pages for the school yearbook. She uses a scanner
and scans a barcode, that has all the students school info like, their first and last name, student ID,
gender, and what grade they are in. once she has enter everyone she send the final pages to the
schools yearbook teacher.

Conclusion

What i hope to learn from my mentorship is understand the better

way to set up photography shoots and adjust the lighting better, and
how to pose people better, and how long it takes to file every order
they get. And what there daily life in the photography world is like.
How crazy or easy it can be to be a photographer.

some much about like the filing system, and what there daily lives look like. I want to thank Mrs Click my
