3. Materials/Equipment: Book; Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri,
cause and effect worksheet, paper plates, cut up tissue paper, glue,
whiteboard, whiteboard marker, and crayons.

4. Teaching:
Interest hook: Tacos are a part of a Mexican Cuisine. What kind of foods do you like? Do
you like tacos? What kind of tacos do you think dragons like? How
many tacos do you think a dragon can eat?

Today we are going to read Dragons Love Tacos. Do you think there is any special ingredient
in a dragon taco?
Encourage students comment on illustrations, ask questions, and predict what will happen
next in the story. How do you think the dragon feels about spicy taco toppings? How
do you think the dragons will react to the spicy salsa? What do you think will
happen now that the kids house is burnt down?
Ask questions and check for comprehension at the end of the book. Why dont dragons
like spicy salsa on their tacos? What kind of parties did the dragons like? What
happened to the kids house?
Now explain the extension activity:
o How many of you would like to make a taco for a dragon?
o Using the items in front of you, you will be able to create a taco for a dragon.
o First, you will color the paper plate the color of a taco shell. (Wait until all kids
have colored the plate). Next, you will fold the plate in half. Lastly you will add
taco ingredients using glue to stick them on your tacos.
o Finally we clean up by throwing away any trash and putting away the materials.

5. Closure: Ask students to remember causes and effects in the story. Open the
book to different causes to the story and ask students to recall what
happened. Who remember why dragons dont like tacos? What
happened when the kid found out dragons like taco parties? What
kind of party did the kid throw for the dragons? What happened
after the dragons ate the tacos at the party? What did the dragons do
after they burnt down the kids house?

6. Assessment: I would like you all to write down three cause and effects we just talked about in
this worksheet. Remember cause is what happens first and effect is what happens after the cause.
Be sure to be detailed when writing the cause and effect.
